Have you read his early novel, "The Fortunate Pilgim ? " Not much Mafia stuff, but it does capture a lot about the Italian American immigrant experience in a big city during the 1st half of the 20th century.

Puzo was great writer, the Godfather has overwhelmed his other works. Critics loved his first book, a spy story, and gave it great reviews. They liked it better than they liked The Godfather.

The fortunate Pilgrim was an unfortunate novel.

"Io sono stanco, sono imbigliato, and I wan't everyone here to know, there ain't gonna be no trouble from me..Don Corleone..Cicc' a port!"

"I stood in the courtroom like a fool."

"I am Constanza: Lord of the idiots."

Fortunate Pilgram is a great read by one of our most talented writers.

Don Corleone, I'm gonna leave you now, because I know you are busy.

Sonny: Mickey Mantle? That's what you're upset about? Mantle makes $100,000 a year. How much does your father make? If your dad ever can't pay the rent and needs money, go ask Mickey Mantle. See what happens. Mickey Mantle don't care about you. Why care about him?

The Fortunate Pilgrim is one of my very favourite novels by Mario Puzo or anybody else.
