All the above is true except you left out: When Club 30 was closed John LaRocca's group, headed by Jo Jo Peccora and Chuck Teemer opened the Jockey Club. It was a couple of miles up Rt.30 and on the opposite side of the road. I can't remember for sure but I believe it was attached to the back Paddock. Chuck and Lil lived in a trailor in back and Jo Jo live in a Ranch next to the Club 30 property.
It is also my belief that they possesed a Federal Gaming Permit accquired from the Jungle Inn in Hubbard, Ohio after they were shut-down. The Permit was in Dom "Moosie" Caputo's name and he worked at the club.
I was never at the Club 30 while it was open, but I scored a hole-in-one on one of the par 3 holes Chuck had built. I went to the Jockey Culb quite often but had to stay in the office.
We went to The Red Dog on Sunday nights so Mom and I could play bingo while Dad shot craps.
My Dad was a degenerate gambler and got to be very close to Jo Jo. Infact they close enough that as a teenager I was a regular at "Uncle" Jo's camp, Charlies Roost, in Tionesta, PA.
Mom and Dad were both close to Chuck and Lil along with Jim and Joan Edwards from Waterford Park. In fact my parents and Chuck owned thoroughbreds, ClaireTee Stables, and raced at Waterford.
Mom and Dad also visited Audley Farms in Berryville, VA. Needless to say we watched the races in their appartment above the track. Believe it or not, there was a $100.00 betting window in the apartment. Jim was the first guy I new that drove a Rolls.
I still have some memoribila from both Club 30 and The Jockey Club. Also some great pictures from Charlies Roost.

Why did you ask about it when you knew basically everything about it?

As you said: I knew basically everything about it". If I knew everything then I wouldn't have said "I believe or my belief". Maybe, just maybe I'll learn something, or even better, connect with some old friends. My "smart-ass" days are long behind.

For what it's worth: My personal knowledge goes back to Louie Volpe and Kelly Mannirino. The involvement of the Picola Brothers and T.Dallas in Club 30 is news to me. In fact that is my first and only knowledge of them. Maybe a "smart-ass" actually learned something ;-)

Sure, you're welcome to ask whatever. Now can I refuse to answer whatever? However Please read my op(opening post?) again and tell me what I said that was wrong. Obviously I still am able to add to my "little bit of knowledge". This was the very first I ever heard of either the Picolas or T.Dallas.
My turn: What possible interest would you have in this post to begin-with? Especially if you're located in Scotland.

Have you always been so crankie or did it come with age? I can only assume that everyone would know that I don't know as much as you. Thus whatever they could add would be helpful.Low and behold, someone had something to add. Live and learn!
Can I assume that you have nothing to add other than to try and bust my balls? Good luck, that ain't goin' to happen ;-)

I don't recall that the RED DOD was that far from Club 30. When I was parking cars for the RED DOG, we drove across the street and maybe a tenth of a mile to Club 30's parking lot.
You seem to know a lot about the people that were there. Do you happen to know what the last name was for Jo-Jo's girl friend Deloris? You're correct, Club 30 was virtually across the street from the Red Dog. I'm sure you would have parked my Dad's Caddy more than once. I believe your referring to Dee Santorelli (maybe not spelled correctly) from Pittsburgh. We knew her entire family. Often went to The Holywood Social Club in Oakland for dinner. We were also close Connie and the girls, Charlene and ??? Went to both their weddings, 1500 guests, at the Carlton House on Rt. 22 in Monroeville. Went hunting with both of the son-in-laws. Those were wonderful memories.

Thanks for replying so quickly. Do you know if Dee is still alive and if so where she might be? My sister Patti was asking me to check for her. My aunt was Chuck Teemer's "girl friend" and fronted him the $$$ to get involved with Club 30 according to my sister. Lil's trailer was parked on Club 30 property in the early 60's. The Red Dog was on the upper level of the building just across the PA state line. There was a bar on the lower level that maybe had a restaurant for those that could not get into the Red Dog. My memory of those times is fading but I can still recall some details. If you do not mind me asking, how old are you? Wow, small world. I can not tell you anything about Dee. Other than my God-Father and Uncle Joe's son-in law, I pretty much lost track of everyone else after Joe died. Knew "Diamond Lil" as well as any "kid" could. Mom and Dad were very close to both of them. Other than Chuck, my Dad was the only other with an education. Quite a contrast, that is Lil and Chuck's physical appearance. Mom had a custom made white leather Jewelry Box, made for Lil, to carry her "stuff" back and forth to Florida. There was also a pair of Antique Jockey light stands at the entrance way to the The Jockey Club. Mom bought those for Chuck. If fact, Mom aka. Dad and Chuck had a stable of houses they ran at Waterford, Claire-Tee Stables. Your memory is somewhat faded regarding the Red Dog's location. The Jockey Club was on the upper level and behind, I believe The Paddock. Their trailer was on the other side of the drive around the back and the entrance to the club. The Red Dog was a couple of miles East on Rt. 30 almost across from the old Club 30. I'm soon to be 66. How about you?

Good news: They had two trailers, one behind the Jockey Club and one on the Club 30 property.
Bad news: The Red Dog was a stand alone building that looked like an old west saloon. The entrance was on the West side. The Jockey Club was closer to McKeesport and behind "the bar downstairs".
Maybe news: My experiences at The Jockey Club may have been post 1963. That being said I only knew of the Jockey Club behind the Paddock, Club 30 before that and then The Red Dog after.
Do you recall seeing the two Jockey light stands on either side of the walk-way going into the Jockey Club?

Yes sir, I'm speaking the real deal. Not to worry as we all forget lots and more as we age. Based on our time line then we probably don't know one another. Based on what I've recanted plus my "Handle" do you remember who my God-Father was?

Your Father was a wise man as was my God-Father, Zebo. He prevented me from becoming really involved.
It's been my pleasure to reminisce with you.

Just came back From Charlie's Roost yesterday. I have been hunting up there for appox 6 years now and see you God-Fathers name (Zebo)on several of the mounts up there, along w/ many pictures. Heard many a story about the camp and the individuals who were there. I am friends w/ the Amato's. I belive his mother was a Pecora. Small World! We would leave for "Camp" the day after Thanksgiving and stay thru Doe-season. I was unaware that Charlie's Roost was still occupied. My understanding was that after Jo Jo died "camp" pretty much came apart. In fact I heard it was in really bad condition. Good to hear it's still standing. Unfortunately the Amato name doesn't ring a bell for me. Is he one of Joe's daughters son? I knew two of them and their husbands (Pat and Leo) much better as they would come to camp. We were the youngest of the bunch and would keep an eye on some of the "older guests" when we were out hunting.

Frank Amato Sr. was the longtime boss prior to LaRocca and stepped down due to health reasons and his son, Frank "Sonny" Amato Jr. Took over the McKeesport/Turtle Creek gambling rackets and was also married to Kelly Mannarino's sister. Sonny Amato also fenced in stolen goods and had two police chiefs doing collections for him. I believe he died around 2008. Morning JCB...Is it possible that Sonny Amato had a son named Leo? That would help both of us.
