Authorities say drug traffickers mailed $1m in marijuana to Malden

Seven people were arrested in a six-month police investigation into a cross-country drug trafficking operation in which $1 million in marijuana was shipped through the mail from California to Malden, authorities announced today.

Six guns, thousands of dollars in cash, and seven pounds of marijuana were seized this morning in a series of raids at Malden homes connected to a criminal organization known as the “Maplewood Crew,” Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone said in a news conference this afternoon.

The investigation began when the U.S. Postal Service intercepted packages containing marijuana bound for various addresses in Malden.

Those arrested and the charges they face are:

Dat Tran, 23; possession of ammunition as an armed career criminal, trafficking of over 100 pounds of marijuana, conspiracy to traffic marijuana, money laundering.

Reginald Miller, 20; breaking and entering, trafficking of over 100 pounds of marijuana, possession of a large-capacity weapon, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony, possession of ammunition, destruction of property, being an armed career criminal.

Joshua Joyner, 21; trafficking of over 100 pounds of marijuana, conspiracy to traffic marijuana over 100 pounds.

Brendan Joyner, 20; possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, possession of ammunition, possession of a Class B drug.

Daniel Knight, 23; possession of a firearm as a career criminal, possession of ammunition, possession with intent to distribute a Class B drug, felonious possession of a firearm.

Tyrell Rollin-Sutton, 20; possession of a large-capacity weapon, possession of a large-capacity magazine, breaking and entering in the daytime, conspiracy to commit breaking and entering, destruction of property

Deandre West, 21, breaking and entering in the daytime, conspiracy to commit breaking and entering, destruction of property.

Miller was arrested Saturday. All the others were arrested this morning.
