I was in NOLA a few weeks ago and asked around. I was told there is a few older guys still alive, but as well as for organization there is nothing to be found. People can make assumptions or claims about it being powerful, but word on the street from the bartenders, strippers, and door guys is that the street gangs pose more of a threat from robbing you than does any gambling, extortion, or shakedowns from the NOLA LCN which is virtually non existant. (What i mean by that is there is no bars on Boubron owned by them, or any large significant betting rings worth worrying about.) Sad turn of events, Louisiana with all of its corruption would be prime for the taking by any intelligent wiseguys.
"What are you cacklin' hens cluckin' about?!?!"
"Is that him?!? With the sombrero on?!?"

This I agree with. When the bust happened with him trying to fix the riverboat gambling liscenses, I heard the Nola Family was behind it, not sure how true it was. Still a great man! Good ol' Eddie is supposed to have a reality show on A&E premiering "this summer," but as of Aug. 1 the airing was delayed for unknown reasons. Even Carlos Marcello respected him, he was caught via wiretap talking about all the politicians he had "in his pocket." About Edwards he said, "Edmund and me alright, but I can't see him everyday. He's the strongest sonofabitchin' governor we ever had. He fuck with women and play dice, but won't drink. How do you like dat?"

Is this a Renaissance for the New York Mafia?
Mancuso, Bonanno boss in waiting?
Is DiFiore just keeping the seat warm for Mancuso? I thought I'd take a look at this, since some readers seem to be commenting an awful lot on a recent post about the Gambino family having 750 made members and associates.
We all know the FBI has only two squads -- roughly 25 agents -- left to keep an eye on, never mind investigate, New York's five Mafia families. So now would seem the perfect time for them to start growing, start doing some real business -- I am talking executions and murders, too -- err, I mean acquisitions and mergers...
"The mob agents are the bastard stepchildren of the FBI these days," an FBI source recently revealed. "Everything is terrorism now. If you want to be somebody with a future in the FBI you want to be assigned to terrorism."
"If you want a couple grand to get an informant on a mob case you're going to be waiting a month," said another FBI source. "If you need that same money for a terrorism case you're going to get it the next day."
One squad handles the Lucchese and Gambino families, while another handles the rest, sources have revealed. This right here says the Gambinos and Lucheses must be the largest...
Don Vito, Montreal boss It goes without saying that for many years the FBI once had a squad for each of the families -- which is how they so effectively managed to dismantle organized crime in recent years, reaching a crescendo, perhaps, with the infamous Mafia Takedown Day (soon to become a national holiday??)
Anyway this is the best "data" I could found on the size of the mob in New York:
700 made mafia members More than 7,000 associates
Now, tell me: does 750 seem too large for the Gambinos? (Again, it is a combo of made men and associates.) It still leaved over 6,000 for the other four families...
And why do you think some Feds are "worried that the lack of attention could lead to a Wiseguy resurgence?" as Jerry Capeci recently reported, and who furnished the above data?
I'd say the Feds have damn good reason to worry... and the mob, to fucking celebrate!!!

Great charts Muk, thanks again. Do you know when Cirillo became a capo since he's not on the 85 chart? He did take control of the Greenwich Village crew, until the beginning of 81 Gigante headed that crew. During that time he was very close to Gigante, i havent got a source of him being a capo back then. He was listed a capo last indicment. Perhaps someone has info You're right Mangano was probably the Greenwich Village capo in 85, for some reason i thought he was part of the 116th street crew.

I'd like to know that too, i've never seen that pic of Gambino before. Thats from the Life Magazine of september 1967 i bought from eBay. I read about that somewhere that a FBI agent (can't remember his name) was feeding info to a Life journalist on the mob and he proceeded to heavily exaggerate their power or something to that effect. That could be possible because in those days they didnt exactly know the strength of the mafia. But on the other hand lets not forget those times were the mobs Golden Era, not the 70s or 80s like some claim. The 50s and 60s were the golden age of the mafia. No problem Cheech enjoy it
