Alfred Hitchcock is the best director in cinema ever, IMO. My top 5 favorites: 1. Vertigo 2. Rear Window 3. Psycho 4. The Birds 5. North By Northwest I'll be seeing Rope soon, hopefully. -Pat

The Lady Vanishes is a brilliant early film from Hitchcock, and his second best British film besides, what I consider to be his third best, The 39 Steps (though I need to see Foriegn Correspondent, which I taped from TCM a long time ago...). Amazon most likely bought a lot from Criterion right before they went OOP, knowing that they could make a lot of money of off the sales. Thug

I love Alfred Hithcock movies. Among my favorites, which have been mentioned are: Psycho and The Birds. One maybe not as known that I found interesting was "Strangers On A Train". I liked his tv show as well and used to watch it every Sunday night. TIS

I've seen several episodes and enjoyed how Hitch would always make an aperance on EVER SHOW. And he'd always say things that were quite funny but they were also very... dark...

I don't think that "The Birds" is one of his worst. It is an inventive film with great acting cinematography and direction. It just isn't his best. I'm dying to see Marnie.
Ranked Films:
1. Vertigo (1958) - 10/10 2. North By Northwest (1959) - 10/10 3. Rope! (1948) - 10/10 4. Lifeboat (1943) - 10/10 5. Spellbound (1945) - 10/10 6. Psycho (1960) - 10/10 7. The 39 Steps (1935) - 10/10 8. Rebecca (1940) - 9.75/10 9. The Birds (1963) - 9.75/10 10. Rear Window (1954) - 9.5/10 11. The Lady Vannishes (1938) - 9/10

I just received my set of Hitchcock's films that I bought on EBay from a Chinese seller. The set has 34 of his major films (see list below) and it cost only $39.99!! The boxed set is titled in Chinese, but all the films are in English, and the picture quality is as good as any single Hitchcock DVDs that I already have. All the individual disks are labelled in English. Here's a pic of the boxed set: The movies included are: 1:Dial M for Murder ( 1954 ) 01:44:49 Color 2:Foreign Correspondent ( 1940 ) 01:59:53 B/W 3:I confess ( 1953 ) 01:34:13 B/W 4:Jamaica Inn (1939) 01:29:43 B/W 5:Lady Vanishes, The (1938) 01:34:18 B/W 6:Lifeboat (1944) 01:36:07 B/W 7:Man Who Knew Too Much, The (1934), presented by Leslie Banks & Edna Best 01:15:08 B/W 8:Man Who Knew Too Much, The (1951), presented by James Steward & Doris Day 01:59:09 Color 9:Marnie (1964) 02:09:48 Color 10:Murder (1930) 01:32:10 B/W 11:North by Northwest ( 1959 ) 02:16:14 Color 12:Notorious Hitchcock ( 1946 ) 01:41:10 B/W 13:Paradine Case, The (1947) 01:53:57 B/W 14:Psycho (1960) 01:48:08 B/W 15:Rear Window (1954) 01:52:11 Color 16:Rebecca (1940) 02:10:03 B/W 17:Rich and Strange (1932) 01:22:34 B/W 18:Rope (1948) 01:19:47 Color 19:Sabotage (1936) 01:16:07 B/W 20:Saboteur (1942) 01:48:35 B/W 21:Secret Agent (1936) 01:25:50 B/W 22:Shadow of a Doubt (1943) 01:46:58 B/W 23:Skin Game, The (1931) 01:18:24 B/W 24:Spellbound (1945) 01:57:49 B/W 25:Stage Fright ( 1950 ) 01:49:00 B/W 26:Strangers on a train ( 1951 ) 01:40:01 B/W 27:Suspicion ( 1941 ) 01:38:32 Color 28:The 39 Steps(1935) 01:22:17 B/W 29:The Birds (1963) 01:58:42 Color 30:To Catch a Thief (1955) 01:45:43 Color 31:Trouble with Harry, The (1955) 01:38:46 Color 32:Vertigo (1958) 02:08:47 Color 33:Wrong Man, the ( 1956 ) 01:44:49 B/W 34:Young and Innocent (1937) 01:17:30 B/W The seller charged an additional $25 for shipping, but it came via DHL and arrived in only two business days!! Rebecca is Hitchcock's masterpiece that I liked the least, if that makes sense. I have it, and will be watching it again soon; it's also showing on the big screen at my local cinema next month. Of the films you haven't seen, I've only seen The Man Who Knew Too Much. Haven't seen the remake so I can't compare, but it would take some doing to beaet the 1934 effort. Top-notch stuff. Enjoy!
