It's difficult, if not impossible, to comprehend the extent of evil that people can inflict. We can be grateful for the return of three lives, whose loved ones had considered lost, but it is heartbreaking, as TIS pointed out, to think about how mangled their lives had been suffering for a decade or more. It is hard to imagine each Christmas, birthday, school graduation, wedding, etc. that took place without their presence, how the families anguished unknowingly while their loved ones were locked away blocks from their home. I can't imagine the mental torment that the girls had suffered, existing in fear, isolation and darkness.

And perhaps the most depressing thought is that without a doubt right now there are young missing girls or boys suffering a similar existence somewhere.
