What liberties are they taking away, exactly?
In this case I'm talking about the erosion of the 4th Amendment. But at the moment you can find similar ways of eroding civil rights in Russia and Hungary.
The NSA's intelligence gathering is overseen by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court. The metadata gathered includes phone numbers of callers and receivers, serial numbers of both phones, and possible GPS location of caller and receiver when call occurred. That's it. And we have to remember that any digital communication, like phone calls, emails, and online chats, are not secure to begin with. Unless somebody has something to hide, none of this should be a matter of alarm.
