Who knows about LA, theres really nothing left to be the boss of. You have to remember the source that Gambino became Underboss was Kenji Gallo under his original Crimeman blog. Then he said he wasn't and that Gambino was just a punk and not respected by anyone out there. Even in his book he badmouths Gambino so who the hell really knows what the deal was out there. Was Gambino really the Underboss, ask Kenji he seems to be the source for all the stories and the last i remember him saying was that he wasn't. Here's where Gallo first said Gambino became Underboss in his Crimeman Blog and he used the name Mafia soldier. "I was hanging out in a bar last night and my friends and I were discussing the presidential race. Clinton came up. We all laughed, because a friend of ours who is made and now [the Los Angeles] underboss [Tommy Gambino] gave Roger Clinton a 50,000 dollar check and a Rolex to help his father get a parole. His father who I know as Sal was a major player in the Pizza Connection and dumped tons of heroin on the streets of the US. It was all swept under the table." http://www.lukeford.net/profiles/profiles/steve_bing.htm?ModPagespeed=noscript

So the LA family is active with Tommaso Gambino as boss since 2012? There really is no formally structured, viable family in Los Angeles. Just a handful of members still living, some of them not even residing in California anymore. And there's been no official verification that Tommy Gambino is the new boss since Milano died. Ivy in another thread you claimed Tommasso Gambino is a wanabee? Care to explain?

Skinney, L.A.DOES NOT have 20 guys. You don't know what you're talking about. Milano is dead and the the L.A. family IS DEAD and has been for awhile. There are a few guys living out there who may do something on their own but there is no family of 20 guys. No fucking way. Milano owned a Bail Bond agency called Bell Bail Bonds that his second wife named Rochelle operated it. She is Jewish. What else do you want to know about the Milano Brothers originally from Cleveland?

hey ivy new here so i dont mean to call you out you seem to know your stuff but it looks like u did say it a while back. last activity about tommaso gambino was that ectasy lab he was suspected of financing like 10 years ago, been pretty quiet every since. OK, fair enough. But, to clarify, by "wannabe," I meant he doesn't seem to be a big player or even very respected within LCN circles. One wonders if he'd even be made if it wasn't for his family ties. I remember reading something about him coming out to the west coast, and being made into the LA family, because he butted heads with some guys back east. And, according to Kenny Gallo, guys like Jimmy Caci didn't think much of him. As for that ecstasy lab, Galanis reportedly sought financial backing from Tommy Gambino but I'm not sure he ever got it, considering Gambino was never charged in the case. The last news was Gambino applying for a trademark for his "Gambino Lite Vodka."

http://www.netplaces.com/mafia/family-ties/the-west-coast-families.htmThe West Coast Families by Scott M. Deitche California was not quite the immigrant bastions that states back East were. Consequently the Mafia presence in cities like Los Angeles and San Jose were comprised mainly of transplants from New York and Chicago. But while the mobsters that made up the bulk of these small-time gangs were from some of the biggest crime families in the country, their exploits out West were decidedly minor league. Los Angeles, California The mob in Los Angeles never got much respect, even though they oversaw gambling, loansharking, and pornography. Founded by Joseph Ardizzone, the most influential Los Angeles Mafioso was Jack Dragna. He oversaw a small family of mostly East Coast transplants, nicknamed the “Mickey Mouse Mafia” by the Los Angeles Police Department. Dragna was involved with Hollywood unions and bookmaking. Dragna died in 1956 and was replaced by Frank DiSimone, followed by Nick Licata and then Dominic Brooklier. After Brooklier died, the family fell under the control of Peter Milano. The continually down on its luck family was plagued by informers, constant law enforcement surveillance, and a complete lack of respect on the streets. Though they should have faded away long ago, Milano still leads the now long-in-the-jaw Mickey Mouse Mafia. San Francisco, California Concentrated in the heavily Italian North Beach neighborhood, the Bay Area crime family remained a small, local criminal organization, never achieving much power outside their territory. The first don was named Frank Lanza, and he was the boss during Prohibition. Two other dons followed before Lanza's son James took over in the 1960s. He was not a grandiose hood who loved the limelight. The family received some notoriety after Jimmy Frattiano became a government witness, but faded into obscurity after Lanza's death. San Jose, California Onofrio Sciortino was the lyrically named founder of this low-key California family. He was replaced by Joseph Cerrito, a Sicilian native who operated a successful auto dealership in Los Gatos. Cerrito died in 1978 of a heart attack and the San Jose Mafia family died with him. These little blurbs came from my 2nd edition of The Everything Mafia Book, obviously written both for the casual reader, and before Shakes Milano died.

Is the John Gambino we're talking about here is the zip from the Cherry Hill crew?

It's safe to say that on the West Coast, there are no more functioning Mafia families. Tommy Gambino is technically the Underboss/Boss, but there's nothing left to manage.
What does happen out in LA is that various soldiers from a variety of families work together. A lot of them own legitimate businesses, restaurants mostly, and who knows if any actual illegal activity occurs, although if it does, it's likely higher level financial crimes.
This was true back in the 1980s/1990s. If you look up the various Mafia busts from 85, 96 etc, there were guys from Chicago, Patriarcha, Gambino, Colombo all in on them.
