I find myself in the Kew Gardens/Forest Hills section quite a bit. It's a great place. Gorgeous in the summer. Lots of luxury condos, restaurants, and a little village in Kew Gardens with some eastern european restaurants and an indie movie theatre. My only question is, where does a dumb Irish mick like myself get a drink? Seems to be very little Italians/Irish in this area...
If you're just looking for an old time "gin mill" type of Irish bar, there's an O'Hanlons on Queens Boulevard just north of Union Turnpike. It's one or two stores away from the CVS. But like you posted, the crowd isn't Irish because the neighborhhod isn't Irish. But the place definitely has that old New York Irish vibe. I know this because I'm a middle aged Italian American, and when I go in there I look lost

.
But all kidding aside, if you're looking for Irish pubs with an Irish crowd, you should try Woodside. That area is loaded with them.
