I'm second generation Italian-American

All my grandparents were born in italy and came to NYC...and both my parents were born here in the USA, so does that make me second or third generation?

I've noticed people use the term first generation differently. Some say the ones who were born elswhere but immigrated here are first generation but others say it's the first ones born here.

on my fathers side, both my grandparents were born in sicily, but my father was born here, so my father calls him self first generation.
