After listening to about 15 minutes of taped conversation this morning, the jury in the racketeering conspiracy retrial of mob boss Joe Ligambi and his nephew George Borgesi hunkered down for a sixth day of deliberations.
The panel of 11 women and one man called it quits around 4 p.m. and headed home. They will be back at it tomorrow at 9:30. Looming is a three-day weekend (Monday is a federal holiday -- Martin Luther King Day), meaning that if there is no decision tomorrow, the case will go into next week.
While the group sent a note to Judge Eduardo Robreno Monday afternoon saying there was an "impasse" in deliberations, there has been no indication that the panel has bogged down since then.
Ligambi, 74, and Borgesi, 50, are both charged with racketeering conspiracy linked to what authorities say was an organized crime gambling and loansharking operation that ran from 1999 through 2011. Ligambi also faces two gambling charges and one count of witness intimidation.
Over the past two days the jury has asked to hear nearly two dozens secretly recorded conversations that were introduced as evidence during the eight-week. The panel has also asked about some specific pieces of evidence.
In the note it sent on Monday, the jury said it had voted twice on all five counts and had failed to reach a unanimous decision on any of them. Whether they have taken subsequent votes could not be determined.
The process continues tomorrow.
The jury in the first trial that ended in February deliberated for 21 days before coming back with a split decision. That case involved seven defendants and 62 counts. Four defendants were convicted, one was acquitted and the jury hung on the charges that Ligambi and Borgesi are again fighting.
With each passing day i think there is a higher chance they both will walk, from what i've read in this topic im sure George is definatly going to walk and i'd be 50/50 on Joe.
That been said it really is looking good for both to walk now imo.
Wow Roebuck just said they have a verdict on 2 counts but deadlocked on the other 3 and the judge sent them back to deliberate more, to me this judge is emabarssed that there might be another Mistrial in his court, if I was a juror I'd tell him to Fuck Off my mind ain't changing. Hopefully they announce something today.
This judge don't care about the jurors or defendants, he wants to give 20yrs to each and go down as the last Jude to do that in philky, the mob is dead out there, they all are just a bunch of independent hustlers supporting there family however they can because there all convicted felons--_F@%K the System
Whether it's right or wrong afraid these jurors are in this for the long haul - no way does Robreno want to try this one again. Can only hope for partial verdict reading this afternoon unless they come to agreement

That charge is bullshit, all he did was ask the photographer from stainos weeding not to give the feds a group photo of all "the boys", the photographer even admited that he didnt even feel threatened by ligambi, its not like ligambi sent guys after him with baseball bats or stuck a gun in the guys face.

If they're guilty on the two counts that are already decided, and it's enough to keep Borgesi and Ligambi jailed, then the Feds may just take their sweet ass time and try them again on the other counts. Of course, that's assuming they don't come back with verdicts on those other three counts today (or in the near future).

I hear what you are saying, and that may work with Ligambi, but Georgie is only charged with conspiracy. If they find him guilty he's fucked. If they hang he gets bail.
I think the Rico conspiracies were the weakest charges of all and the. The witness one was bs too as mentioned above. if they have a verdict on George's charge would think they may read that today but that's just a guess.

Gotcha, jmack. I forgot that Borgesi only had the one count left. Like I say, I wasn't following too closely to begin with .

I think you are probably right. Today may be a long day. If they can't break the deadlock on the other charges we may see a partial verdict today. Especially if they are found guilty/ not guilty of the conspiracy charges. But like you said, that is just a guess.

Yeah south philly is a long way from the Bronx. As everyone knows, I am not a Georgie apologist but I thought he got screwed the first time around not getting bail when he was found not guilty on 13 of 14 counts.
This is what I think the verdicts are so far, we'll see.
Not that I have any idea, but that was the same thought that I had when I saw the verdict was in on 2 charges. I think this is good for the defense. If they were going to get them on conspiracy they would more than likely get them on at least some of the other charges. The fact that they only have verdicts on 2 charges looks very good for the defense in my opinion. But then again, what do I know?
Yeah it's all speculation from all of us, just wishful thinking lol
All I know is that if I was George I would feel pretty good right about now. On a side note, if I was Bent finger Lou I may change my address in the very near future.
