Even though he only got a few minutes of screentime (thank God), my pick would be:

The character I hated the most,by far,was Kevin Finnerty. I never got the point of the "coma dream" world in which he existed.
I know that Chase liked to leave some plot lines unresolved(the Russian,Furio and Finn's departures,Sil and Tony's eventual fates,etc.)and for the most part,that was a feature of the show that I liked.Real life is like that,not everything gets wrapped up in 60 minutes.
I just feel that on occasion,IMHO,Chase got a little full of himself and just threw stuff in because he could.

For the most part, everyone has listed main characters. I think the most hated character is someone only in one season, but did something low and I HATE her. Its Agent Deborah from season 4. She's a slimey rat who got Adrianna killed and lied to her the whole time and acting like her friend. Fuck her.

I always liked how David Chase made Carmela's mother every bit as annoying as the character the same actress in "Goodfellas."

All the feds got on my nerves alot.

Janice is a control freak and annoying, like her Mother. I like Richie though because he reminds me of some of he guys I know. But Ralphie is just annoying, he was only kept alive because he was a good earner.

Are you guys kidding? Richie was the best. The actor does an amazing job at playing a tough, just-outta-jail gangster with a hard-on for the world 24/7. His fashion sense... late 70s early 80s... same clothes he had before the can, almost everything he wore was like a size too small for him.
He's stuck in a time loop and has a massive sense of entitlement (he'd have been next as boss if Jackie was alive) not to mention he never backs down from Tony.

I found his death to be anti-climatic... but it was necessary to show what kind of sick "who-oar" Janice really was.

EDIT: Exactly. Richie also reminds me a lot of people I know. Plus his expressions and mannerisms, it doesn't get any funnier! Like when Paulie and Silvio visit him about the ramp or his attitude when the guys throw him a homecoming party.

I mentioned Proval in the Mean Streets thread over in the Movie section - incredible actor. Ritchie is almost a caricature it's so over the top but when you think about what the guy went through with standing up and serving his time, losing his brother, coming home to see Beansie having legit success and Tony profiting from his losses you gotta feel a little sorry for the guy. When I look at how Ritchie was depicted I think it was a conscious effort by Chase to make him a sympathetic character. I think it's the first time that he meets Tony at the mall he's wearing an old Members Only jacket and some polyester sansabelt slacks that have not been manufactured since 1979. Yeah, he's a psycho but he's often pushed to it. When he gives Tony the leather jacket it was a sincere gesture - a peace offering. Even though he says he's letting go of the past I think he still treasures the jacket and the memories of that period of his life. He still had potential. He still could have been Tony if things had gone differently. That's why when he brings Carmela the tripe (how many of the other guys, besides Paulie maybe, would be that considerate)and sees the maids husband wearing the jacket he's legitimately hurt. Nah, no way you can hate Ritchie.
The guy I CAN'T STAND looking at is Dr. Elliot Kupferberg. Maybe it's because Bogdanovich is a scumbag in real life but I hate the way this guy tried to pull Melfi's strings. Suggesting she's an alkie because she likes a pop or two during the day. Manipulating not just her but their mutual friends to confront Melfi at the dinner party. He's a medical Svengali (just like he was in Hollywood) who sees a weak willed person who he can take advantage of. He's basically a coward who tries to manipulate Melfi into dumping Tony as a patient and by extension manipulating Tony, something he'd never have the balls to do by himself - remember the parking lot scene.
