Hello everyone, i'm very curious about Sonny Red Faction. I mean, where whas Alphonse ''Sonny Red'' Indelicato's crew based on ? And on what operations ? Also Dominick ''Big Trin'' Trinchera and Phillip ''Phil Lucky'' Giaccone. Where were their crews based on ? What kind of operations and stuff they were involved in mainly. Also how kind of personalities were they ? You know, as i know, Sonny Red was different kind of mobster: wearing hockey jackets, shorts, jeans, red boots, big glasses (which said he inspired by Cesare Bonventre) in 70's. He probably got very colorful personality, but also known as dangerous. About Phil Lucky, i read he was bit brash but gentle, who was a religious man, an altar boy back in his childhood and he was once capo of Joey Massino and Joey hated him. I don't know much about Big Trin: only he hardly spoke English, always mixed it with Italian and that's all. If you've got any more info. share please, thanks

I am just speculating here but seeing as how all three of those guys sold a lot of H, I think they would have continued to push more and more H until they all would have gone down in the Pizza Connection Case. I remember seeing their pictures from the Bono wedding and that was a whose who of heroin dealers. Food for thought.

Hey PMAc the Lufthansa heist went down in 1978 and the Glanate killing happened in 1979. I think Massino wsa a capo even before the Galante murder but I could be wrong.

All three of them were pretty big in the heroin trade and they were originally close with the so called zip faction. But that alliance was broken when the zips decided to go with the Rastelli faction during their push for power in 1981. Information on the three of them is sparse, but somewhat surprising is the fact that Giaccone was actually the most powerful of them until Sonny Red later superseded him in wealth and influence. Giaccone was for example part of a ruling panel when Galante was imprisoned in 1978. He was also the fastest one (of the three of them) who reached the rank of a captain after being made.
Giaccone came out of a street gang called the Comanches that terrorized the streets of Ridgewood in the 1940s and 1950s. He had a criminal record which included convictions for rape, assault and gambling. Later in life, he was the owner of Air Freight Haulage Company, a trucking company that did business at Kennedy Airport.
Trinchera was indicted (together with Sonny Red btw) in 1972 when they refused to give information on the Joey Gallo murder. Why exactly Trinchera and Sonny Red were picked up is hard to say. But I don´t think they had anyting to do with the Gallo killing. Trinchera was made captain pretty late, in 1980 when he took over Armand Pollastrino´s crew. So he was pretty fresh on the job when the three of them were slain.
Sonny Red had a reputation as a violent man. And before the books were opened in 1976, several NY Families put a claim on him. However, Sonny Red chose the Bonannos, perhaps because of his closeness with Lilo Galante.

totally agree thanks hairy. ive always wondered about these three. i think the others on the board are right; mancuso has to be a figurehead. i have a friend whose a friend who never says much but said something to me which seemed obvious; that right after 9/11 because so many resources were designated towards terror, the mafia had a good decade to recruit while the heat was off of them. not sure if i agree or not just thought it was interesrting You´re welcome. I have often wondered about Mancuso. I´m not sure, but I think his father was Tony Mancuso, nicknamed "The Nose", a Bronx based Lucchese soldier who died in 1967. Looking at an old mugshot of him, Mikey Nose resembles him a lot. Tony´s father´s name was Michaele which makes my argument at least a little bit stronger, since many Italian Americans are named after their grand fathers or in some cases, their dads. One more thing I read the pizza connection book it said sal Catalan took over as street boss 81 also read sonny black took over as boss in 81 after the 3 capo murder. But the zip faction from Brooklyn didn't take a side. George and the Canada crew helped Massimo. There's another guy sally fruits who was a old zip who was on and off acting boss for most off the 80 tys used to go meet gotti at the ravenite till they locked gotti away. .sally fruits was a sneaky guy when it came to the media for any type of boss died at home I think. Yep. Catalano served as the acting boss for a short while but stepped down due to his lack of good english. He had trouble representing his soldiers at sitdowns. Then a ruling panel was installed with Sonny Black on it. At that moment Lefty Ruggiero stepped up as acting captain of Sonny Black´s crew. After Brasco was revealed being an undercover FBI agent, the ruling panel was dismantled and Sally "Fruit" Farrugia became the acting boss.

Hairy: great additional info you provide as always. Youre a true asset to this forum. Im currently Reading DeStefanos "King of the godfathers" on Joe Massino, the internal turmoil of the Bonnano family is interesting stuff.
