TIS, there is 3/4" of ice on my driveway. Based on the behavior of our southern brethren I am debating whether to call 911 or call in sick to work tomorrow. rolleyes

We woke up yesterday to a world of snow encased in ice. When I got home from work, the plow had already run through our neighborhood and blocked every driveway in a thick and high wall of ice, which is less preferable than the snow and ice on the road.

And still we avoid the cold temps, but the wind and rain show no signs of letting up. Dry and bright today but a weekend of heavy rain forecast.The county of Somerset down in the south west of the country have had to call the Army in to help them. The whole place is flooded. It's wetter than Atlantis!!!

Incredibly warm winter so far, here in the High Desert. Normal daytime highs this time of year are low 50's. High expected on Friday: 74. Nighttime lows: 29. No precip either, which is going to make for a dangerous fire season. Last year, we lost 19 firefighters in a tragic wildfire just south of here.

I was talking to my brother a couple days ago in Grand Rapids. He said he needed to go out and shovel BUT the mounds were so high he didn't know where to put the snow. lol Geez, I remember those days. Not fun!!!

That is pretty much where we are now, TIS. The "wall" of snow surrounding my driveway is about 5 ft high. We are in the middle of another freeze so nothing will change for a while. But next week there's supposed to be a warm up so hopefully all this stuff will be gone.

I can join the club. There are thick walls of packed ice bordering my driveway. Tonight another snow storm that is supposed to last into Thursday evening, threatening us with upwards of 10 inches of snow.

I remember when I lived in MI, I'd pull out of the driveway and slide in a snow bank tongue OR snowplow left mountain of snow at the end of the driveway and I'd have to get out the shovel out in order to get out of the driveway. What a pain in the ass. mad Plus, I HATE freezing!! panic

Plus, I'd warm my car up for 10/15 mins before I got in it so it would be nice & toasty. LOL Of course gas wasn't $4/5 a gallon back then.

That is the worst part of it. After you dig out, the dreaded plow clears the road and leaves a mountain of packed snow to block the driveway, and if you don't remove it promptly, it freezes solid.

Years ago (probably 70s) I remember getting so much snow that some roofs (not mine thankfully) were collapsing and they sold roof rakes to clear off your roof. lol

You guys are having a particularly crappy winter - ice, snow, ice, snow. The areas around Philly are running out of road salt and it looks like another ice event is coming tonight. We're hoping for all rain out here on the coast, but it is a Nor'easter and they are talking about 40-50 mph wind gusts.

This forecast has increased every time I hear it. It started as 4-6 inches, then 6-10 and tonight it was 12-18! Thank God, my husband's company closed is allowing everyone to work remotely.

At the NJ shore, we started at 2-4"... then 2-6"... (already got 1-2" the first hour!) but now, who the hell really knows until we wake up. Rain or snow? We don't know.

...but we're used to it, either way. And I really don't care so much -- as long as we don't lose power!! I have a hard time even imagining going thru those freezing days again....


I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! tongue lol

Yesterday we had hurricane conditions here. Wind hitting the west coast recorded gusts of over 100 mph. Torrential rain and generally awful conditions. Last night when I was putting our recycling bin out for collection today the wind whipped the lid up and smashed me on the nose. I now look like I have been sparring with Mike Tyson. Kids and wifey of course found the whole thing hilarious....... uhwhat

I would rather die on my feet than live on my knees!

BTW, is the NYC Schools Chancellor a complete moron? When she and the Mayor were questioned about keeping the schools open, she said that they made the right call, that the snow had already stopped and that it was now "a beautiful day".

Yeah, that 1-2" ended up being a bunch of slush. Round 2 tonight is supposed to only be 1-3", so not so bad at all. SB's pic and others I've seen from up north are just plain back-breaking to look at!!
