Note: The regular season starts a week early (March 22nd), with a short series in Australia.


2013 Results

DMC requested earlier than 7 PM ET for the draft so it might be 6:30 PM ET -- please vote on the league page.

Every year we have a self imposed SP limit of 162 starts, and every year people ignore it and the commissioners have to babysit their teams. I was thinking we could try something new. We can set a starting pitching innings limit in the game. We can set it around 1150 innings which equals approximately 162 starts @ 7 innings per start.

Thoughts?

I wish Plaw was here to evaluate that.

I'll point out that the modern IP records for SPs are hovering around 250 IP/season [source]... and I know those are EXTREME numbers. 6 SPs x 250 = 1150, so, I don't think 1150 would too many. In fact, that'd be generous. But I'm still not certain if that's a better way to go...

I'm just trying to think of an alternative to having to keep on eye on every team when July comes around. I'm just using 162 games times 7 innings. 1150 is the closest to that, but it can be set slightly less.

I should've kept a list from the past few years and just not invited ppl back who've done that more than once.

We should do it this year. Anyone that goes over the limit due to quiting, doesn't play next year.

Yes. That is what I suggested to try. Normally we don't have an innings limit, but instead an 162 game start limit. The game doesn't allow us to automatically limit starts though. Only innings.

I see said the blind man. Well I don't think the commissioner should have to watch teams but I also don't think people can or should be trusted to abide by a gentleman's/woman's agreement. Every man for himself and God against us all so to speak. I think, if it is really an issue, then an automatic inning limit would be the way to go.

I agree with the innings limit. We have to do something, and I agree that if people quit they don't get invited back next year. I'd rather have less teams than have people quit.

Also, you are all going to lose anyway so does it really matter how you lose?

The quitting teams that go over the GS limit are usually the teams at the bottom of the pack anyway. Except me. I was the bottom of the pack and didn't quit/go over.

Okay, 4 days to go, and I've changed the draft time to 6:30 PM ET

Below is this year's draft order:


To set the order, I went through the following steps:

1 - I went to http://www.random.org/, DB's favorite random order generator website

2 - Using "Integer Generator" to pick a number between 1 and 20, I got:


3 - I went to "List Randomizer" and input our list of owners (list from top to bottom per what I saw under "Managers" in Yahoo.)

4 - This list of owners was randomized 13 times to get to a final list which is our draft order:



So there you have your draft order.

Any late-comers will be added to the END of the list -- IF it let's me add you!

As for the innings limit proposal, looking at the settings, I only see "Maximum innings pitched per team" which I would take to mean SP+RP, so this proposal won't work. Even if we calculated 162x9 = 1458, that limits each team to 9 innings/game. Unless I'm looking in the wrong place...?

You're probably right. I thought it was limited to starting pitchers only, but appears to be all pitchers. That could work too if we limited it to 1450. Losing road teams only pitch 8 innings, and extra inning games would even that out.

I thought of that, too, but I'd at least make it 1500 just in case -- but I'm still not sure if the whole idea will help. I wish I could go back to last year's stats and see (the "Record Book" won't be available until April 7, apparently.)

I guess put it on the back burner until maybe next year.
