Tony has been with the Connecticut Gambinos forever. He was very close to Tommy DeBrizzi at one time, and was made by Gotti shortly after DeBrizzi's murder (I wonder what happened there? ). Anyway, he specialized in the twin mob staples of gambling and shylocking. Ran card games with the Greeks up in Stamford and Norwalk, and had a ton of money on the street as well. Between Megale and Nick Melia alone, the Connecticut Gambinos must have had well over a couple million on the street back in the '80s and '90s. Not sure what his role will be when he's released, but just the fact that he put so much trust into Greg DePalma---whose own lack of good judgement was legendary---will probably keep him out of the top tier Gambino leadership. But that's just my opinion.

Thanks PB, is there still a Gambino Presence in Connecticut today? Yes. They're not as prevalent as they once were, but they're still there. Especially in the eastern part of the state, from Stamford up through New Haven.

What about the Genovese in Massachusetts? Still have presence there?

What about the Genovese in Massachusetts? Still have presence there? Springfield---at the very least---is still Genovese territory.

When Megale was made, he was put in a crew led by Tommy Gambino. This crew was involved in gambling, loansharking and labor racketeering. Megale enjoyed a special status, running the Connecticut rackets for the Gambinos. In 1989, Megale was indicted on charges of racketeering. According to wiretaps, Gotti and Tommy Gambino discussed who should pay for Megale´s defence. It fell upon Gambino...of course. In 1990, Megale pleaded guilty but withdrew his guilty plea almost immediately, after Gotti had ordered him to do so. Megale was sentenced to prison for six years. A second conviction rendered him a prison term in 2006.
It is my personal belief that Megale was made capo in or about 1998, after Tony Carminati passed away. It´s hard to say if Carminati´s old crew was assigned to Megale or if his crew was disbanded. But guys like Victor Riccitelli (made member) and some younger relatives of the deceased Angelo Mascia, (John and Joseph) seems to have been involved with Megale.

In 1990, Megale pleaded guilty but withdrew his guilty plea almost immediately, after Gotti had ordered him to do so. Hairy, While it's true that Megale's plea pissed off Gotti no end, I don't think he withdrew it because he most definitely did NOT go to trial over the 1989 charges. He went to prison in 1990, did about five years, then came out around '95 or '96. He was briefly jailed again for "consorting" with known felons in the late '90s, then hit the street again until he was finally indicted in 2004 for shaking down a local strip club owner (among other things). Megale's 1989-1990 plea is briefly touched upon here: http://ny.findacase.com/research/wfrmDocViewer.aspx/xq/fac.19930415_0000073.eny.htm/qx

I think though that Gravano testified, correct me if I´m wrong, in the Tommy Gambino (or was it in the Gotti trial?) that Gotti had made Megale withdraw his guilty plea to stop him from admitting his membership in the Gambino Crime Family. However, I may have drawn hasty conclusions and wrongly connected Gravano´s testimony with the charges brought against Megale in 1989.

Megale got a pretty harsh sentence, and I believed he plea bargained. I think he got something like 14 years, and I don't remember there being any violent charges against him.
Looks like he got 11 years, it stills seems overly harsh. Thats what happens when your charged as a leader of a continuing criminal exterprise...

Being relesed after serving 2/3 is pretty standard, isn´t it? Not in a Federal case, Hairy. With Fed time, even with "good time," you do almost ninety percent of your sentence.

aint he a zip or a national. seems like he would be right back at the top with the others. theres a spot open for new consigliar. but 3 yrs supervised release will stop from driving around ny nj and the other states settling beefs. He came here as a little kid and grew up in Stamford. He's a citizen. And supervised release or not, he'll stay close to Connecticut when he gets out. Guaranteed .

It was simular with the chin and peter savino , everybody told him he was a rat but the chin still wouldn't listen because he was makin a ton of money with him I have a more recent example than that, Dom. Everybody and their mother warned Vinny B. about that lowlife steroid head Dom Cicale. He had a rat past in Florida. Some of our friends here who know me personally know that Vinny lived just a few houses away from me for many years. But that's not just neighborhood gossip, it's a fact. But Vinny thought he "saw" something in the kid . You can blame Massino until you're blue in the face. But the truth is, it was that scumbag Cicale who put Vinny away for life. And like I said, the worst part is, Vinny was warned about him more than once.
