I always had heard that the porn name is derived from the first pet and the name of the street, on which you grew up.
Here is an odd coincidence. My mother's maiden name and the street name are the same - Sherman.
In one of my jobs, I had to do business on the phone with a woman who had an exotic name - Carmel Silk. When I got to know her well, I asked her about her name. I told her (nicely) that her name sounded like her profession could have been an Exotic Dancer (sounds nicer than Stripper).
