Wow, maybe this will finally be a great Chicago mob film! They never seem to make movies on Chicago besides Casino, Check out 'The Untouchables.' Great Chicago flick. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFta001pK-E
MORGAN: Why didn't you fight him at the park if you wanted to? I'm not goin' now, I'm eatin' my snack. CHUCKIE: Morgan, Let's go. MORGAN: I'm serious Chuckie, I ain't goin'. WILL: So don't go.

It definitely won't be that great. It's about an event that just happened to take place in Chicago to an Outfit boss, not the Outfit itself. Doesn't sound all that different from Casino, which, aside from Pesci actually working a competent Grand Avenue accent, was very lackluster.
I really wish they'd make a Chicago Mafia worth a piss one of these days. About Taylor Street during the 50s/60s, Aiuppa/Ferriola/Carlisi's Cicero during the 60's/70s/80s, or Chinatown under the LaPietra family. Or Lombardo's Grand Avenue during the 70s/80s. They'd need to include the heavy Chicago accents, the unique Outfit attire, and tons of Chicago idiosyncrasies & quirks. That would be actually be interesting.
Calabrese, Jr was in talks with HBO/showtime or one of those networks to produce a series or a TV film. But that probably won't ever happen. And then there's Mark Wahlberg's planned adaptation of Cooley's book, but there hasn't been any word on that in quite a while. It probably wouldn't have been legit anyways.
Oh Well. Guess I'll just have to start penning my own damn Outfit film or TV series!

Not to say that Casino wasn't a solid film. Just not a solid Outfit film. If you could even call it that.
The only legitimate films/series on Chicago crime I've seen were the show 'Crime Story' & 'The Last Rites Of Joe May'. Not surprisingly, both starred one Mr. Dennis Farina. RIP.

Kind of a weird idea for a film. A group of what can only be described as retards rob arguably one of the most powerful mob bosses in the US and end up getting their faces fried with blowtorches and their throats slit. This when they could make a film about "Mad Sam" DeStefano... This is kind of my sentiment. Of all the Outfit stories... I mean, no doubt, it is an amazing piece of Chicago lore... and unbelievable. But from what I know about it, it's pretty much what you describe. A group of robbers make the galactically insane decision to rob one of the most powerful mob bosses in the country and are all subsequently murdered. And, yeah, Patterson plays Mandell... who definitely was killed. I guess if it's true to the story, someone will be playing Frank Calabrese, if they show the murder.

So wait... is this another movie about dumb guys stealing from mobsters? They weren't dumb. They went there to get their own loot back. I've always felt that Mendell & Moretti knew they were dead men the day Accardo knew they were the guys who robbed Levinson. Robbing Tony was their version of the Boston tea party. No street taxation wihout representation.
