It's really an accurate depiction of Italian American life back then. Much more so than most gangster films.

Cool movie on tonight 8 pm the Crimson Pirate starring an Italian Harlem boy Burt Lancaster. There was no one like him.

Just watched "Rumble on the docks" on Turner. Made around 1950 and starring James Darrin in his first movie. Like so many others, corny but at the same time refreshing

o yeah easily. with me being part of the "new school" or whatever i rarely find myself enjoying a black and white movie, but ever since i was a kid I've always loved key largo, the hustler, anything with john wayne, and in case you can't tell by my signature, on the waterfront.

Lee J Cobb brilliant character actor.

Check out the movie thieves highway starring Richard Conte Lee J Cobb is the bad guy in that. Great fight scene Conte v Cobb in that one. Almost equals Brando v Cobb fight scene in on the waterfront.

"Marty" is on again .

I love the story that Ernest Borginine used to tell to Carson about when he was filming in the Bronx. It was about a year after "From Here to Eternity," and Borginine claimed that he was afraid to walk Arthur Avenue because people blamed him because his character killed Sinatra's character in that movie .

Marty interesting how the project got started. Hecht and Burt Lancaster were partners Lancaster been friends with Borgnine made at least two movies together. Wanted Borgine for the Marty part. Lancaster helped promote the movie.

Borgine was shooting a movie called Bad Day at Black rock staring Spencer Tracey. Borgine asked Tracey for advice he actually shoot both movies at around the same time. Tracey advised Borgine to do it.

Turns out both Actors were nominated for best actor that year. Borgine for Marty and Spenser Tracey for the Black Rock movie Borgine won.

"Marty" was originally meant to be a tax loss for Lancaster and his company. They were going to start filming and then just walk away from the project and take a tax deduction. The tax laws were changed that year and that deduction was no longer allowed. For them to take a deduction the movie would have to be released and shown in a theater. Lancaster's company then finished filming and the rest is history.

As wonderfully evil as Borgnine could be in movies I enjoyed him most in "Marty". He really captured the character with a big heart and portrayed it perfectly.
