Over the past 10-15 years, the Genovese have actually been the most violent family. Among those murdered included a captain, acting captain, soldier, as well as the attempted murder of a union official.
I know you're just talking about New York here, but if you go outside New York I would argue that Philly is the most violent in the country, in that they have had about the same number of hits as the Genovese in the past 15 years but are much smaller (like 10 times as small? something like that). So when it comes to "hits per capita" or whatever, Philly is the worst. Of course if you extend this to include Canada, Montreal is the "winner" hands down. You're probably right about Philadelphia, relative to its size. I count a soldier (Martorano) and 4 associates (Finelli, Casasanto, Maniscalco, and DiPietro) killed, plus 2 associates (Perrotta, Beebee) wounded, since 2000.
