I've seen the footage where Michael gets his revenge but it's true it isn't on the DVD trilogy. About 20 years ago the BBC1 in England showed the Godfather in chronological order (obviously without part III) and all the cut scenes were used including Fabrizio's death.
Unless a different version of the chronological GF and II "Saga" was shown in the UK, the scene you saw of Fabrizio's death was not the one that Frank referred to. The deleted scene included in the Saga that you probably remember shows Fabrizio leaving his pizza parlor, getting into a '58 Ford station wagon, and getting blown up. The scene that Frank refers to was filmed but never (to my knowledge) released in any version. As Frank notes, several still photos of that scene were included in Harlan Lebo's "The Godfather Legacy." Michael wears a pearl-gray fedora and overcoat, wields a lupara (supposedly the same one that belonged to Fabrizio in Sicily), and looks more gangster-like than at any other time in the entire Trilogy. I'd give anything to see that scene.
