Did Frankie Rio or Tony Accardo shield Capone during the lunchtime hit by Hymie Weiss ? I always read that it was Accardo. But this new book about Jack mcgurn says it was Frank Rio. Or is this all a tall tale? At the time Capone had three main bodyguards.First one was Phil D'andrea, who was a constant companion of Al and was the oldest of the rest of the two bodyguards.Second was Frankie Rio, who besides being a bodyguard, he was also a hitman. And the third youngest one was Jack McGurn who was also considered as a hitman. So i highly doubt that at the time young Accardo was sitting at the same table with Capone.Tony mostly worked as a chauffeur, lookout guy and as an enforcer

I believe around 25% of what Roemer wrote in his books....The one i believe most was that Mad Sam pissed in his coffee !! lol When Roemer sticks to the facts he's accurate, when he gives opinion, not so much. Still, he deserves more than 25%. The new book by Vincent Inserra corroborates a lot of what he wrote. I suggest everyone get a copy of Inserra's new book. l I need to order the book by Inserra. Say it's pretty good? I read sections of the book on Amazon. I agree about Roemer. He tends to "promote" a little too much, but as you said, much of his information has been supported by other agents. He deserves a lot more than 25 percent. I've read all the Mary Ferrel info and have saved files. I did not order the FBI files for the reason you mentioned. Some folks with whom I talked (in Chicago) said they were heavily redacted.

In the movie 'Capone' - It was Frank Nitti... It's definately bullshit but I'm thinking it was Accardo, Toodoped might not think it, but it is highly possible. That one faithful evening Accardo was bringing Al his coffee two seconds before the gunfire.
If a guy fucking tripped over a banana peel, they'd bring me in for it.

Roemer's book says it was Accardo but yeah I think he embellishes things in it. Deadly Valentines the biography of Jack McGurn (great book by the way) says it was Rio. Which is more likely. Accardo wasn't as close to Capone at that point was he? That's my thinking. Accardo was just 20 and had not moved that "high" up the ladder. Anything is possible with these guys, but (IMO) everything points to Rio.
