At a station near my daughter's apartment, gas is $2.14. Some market analysts think oil will hit $40 p/barrel in 2015 which would be the lowest since the 80s.

When the U.S. launched "shock and awe" in March 2002 oil went over $50 a barrel. Do I remember correctly?

Basically correct. Actually, prices started to accelerate in 2003-04 and by '05 were around $60.

Was $2.35 two days ago when I had to fill up my 36 gallon gas hog

It was $2.78 just last week. Same station is now $2.59. Woo woo!!! I must admit I really notice the difference in my gas budget.

I posted yesterday that gas was @ $1.99 here. Today it's @ $1.95.

It's anywhere from $2.16-$2.12 here in Central Illinois.

Yesterday I was on the PA Tpke just east of Pittsburgh. $2.80 for Regular, YES, Highway robbery.

I seen it as low as $2.23 in Birmingham today. Haven't been to the local stations today to see what it is here.

I honestly can't remember the last time gas was les than $2.00 a gallon here in New York. But the names Sergio Valente and Paco Rabanne come to mind. And I think I was wearing a Members Only jacket.

It's been a while here too. I know in 98 when I graduated it was .89 for regular but once I got out of school I hit the road working for a utility contractor and didn't have a vehicle yet, and the only fuel I was buying was diesel for the bucket trucks and we had fuel cards so until about 2000 I don't remember anything on gas prices

Basically Saudi Arabia is flooding the market with oil right now which is driving the cost of fuel down at a very quick rate.

Not sure how much oil and gas play up there in the north of the livelihood of New York's economy, but it's the life blood down here in Louisiana. We are on the verge of breaking ground in refining fuel from the shale energy boom that could sustain fuel in America for a couple of hundred years!! AKA that's called fracking, where we break through the shale rock to sustain an abundant amount of untapped fossil fuels.

This breakthrough has seriously ruffled the feathers of OPEC because it drastically reduces the dependency we have had on them and their ability to control the market. Essentially we are driving OPEC into the ground so they are mass producing fuel to get the most out of it before the prices drop for good and stop fluctuating. Don't get me wrong, its not an overnight fix, but changes are slowly being made.

Fracking is a huge issue with the environmentalist though. That is the big issue on more of it happening.

I agree but those "environmentalists" also want to drive around in the SUV's looking accomplished. It's a untapped fuel source that could gain us 250-400 more years of sustainable energy. We will see where their hearts lay when it comes down to crunch time.

Today I am in Greenville SC and got gas for $1.97

About $2.13 I think here today.

New Jersey is falling behind. Yesterday (12/26) I had to drive 33 miles west to a very rural area of Cumberland County, which is on the Delaware Bay. I got gas there for $2.17. At home, Atlantic County, it was $2.32. On Tuesday, 12/23, I was in Camden County and every station I passed, the gas was $2.25. You never know where or when is the best time to fill up.

Prices of what gas stations can sell gas are regulated closer now so no price gauging? But years ago if the gas station manager heard gas was going up per gallon. They would change the prices per gallon to reflect the price they heard even though they still payed the lower price that they paid for it.

So if they heard on the news gas was up that increase their profits.

During the gas shortage their was a station that you got gas from a pump that was out of out of sight from the street. They sold gas for what ever price they wanted. People would pay it because it was better then not being able to drive.

They would buy stolen gas at a low price and they sold it for high price. I loved greedy bastards like them.

On the same day, Fitch Ratings warned that home prices in Texas “may be unsustainable” as the price of oil continues to plummet.

I have been predicting this since prices started to crash most 401k's have this in it.

So I have been saying 401's will take a hit. It has not happen because the fed kept interest rates down to nothing. Who knows maybe it will be ok, but it probably will not be ok.
