Great story and advice Footreads!

Anybody see interstellar? I haven't seen it yet but heard great things about it. Rotten tomatoes gave it a pretty good score but not great. IMDB gave it an extremely high score but you can't put too much credibility into IMDB like you can with rotten tomatoes. My friend told me it was incredible.

Also, I've never really been a huge Kubrick fan. I haven't seen all of his movies so it's hard for me to judge but I've just never connected with his movies like I have with Scorsese's or Fincher's among others.

Just re-watched "Top Gun." It's been close to thirty years, and I still don't know why they had to kill Goose. Still pisses me off .

I think it was because Maverick left his position of wing man. You never ever leave your wing position. As a wing man you always have to guard the main attacker. If you don't you isolate the main attacker do that he can be shot out of the sky.

Your not going to believe this but the same concept is true also in soccer.

The wing man in soccer is called the second attacker.

Here is an old post I made on it.

"The second attacker is important because when the dribbler (the main attacker) is under pressure the second attacker is an outlet pass that can keep the dribbler from losing the ball. Players lose the ball when they find themselves isolated with no other help.

The danger is when the dribbler has no forward option. The second attacker can not leave his support position even for a second to become that forward pass option the third attacker. In that second he isolated his dribbler. The second attacker has to be patient. He has to wait for someone else to become the forward option the third attacker.

I have not posted on that in a long time."

So that he could go play Dr. Greene on ER and then have that character get a brain tumor and be killed off.

But he lived on in prominence to star in Revenge of The Nerds!

I'm proud to say that i've never seen Top Gun..

I am a big Deniro and Scorsese fan so I sat down to watch their remake of Cape Fear yesterday. I only made it halfway through though. I mean it wasn't a bad movie but I don't know something about the style of it threw me off and I had a real hard time wanting to watch it all the way through.

I really want to see the original though maye it is better? I don't know did you guys enjoy the DeNiro version?

Haha you and me both. It may be a decent movie, but i really cannot stand Tom Cruise enough to find out.

I grew up in the late 80s/90s this soundtrack cassette tape was on every car journey for a long while, if i hear "take my breath" away one more time, i may die.

I prefered the Mitchum version I thought it was a great movie

The Purge and its sequel. Pretty average, almost mediocre but I liked the concept... one day a year when every crime is legal so the population can vent a little.

Horrible Bosses 2. Skip it.

Just saw "The Man in the Grey Flannel Suit" staring Gregory Peck.

Pretty good movie then ended in a great 4 minute scene at the end.

If I did what he did in this movie my wife would have shot me in my sleep.

Do any of the older members here remember the movie "Duel" with Dennis Weaver? A Spielburg film (his first I think). It's playing on ElRey channel here. I remember seeing it (a tv movie) when it came out. It was really good. Don't think I've seen it since that time.

Great movie.

Dennis Weaver pulls in gas station and a gas station attendant comes to his car. Weaver says fill 'er up with Ethel. LOL LOL THEN, attendant offers to look under the hood. OMG, those days are so far gone. What an OLD movie. But yea, it is good.

If any actor excelled at portraying angst, it was Weaver.

You can still find gas stations up in Oregon that still do that. Just watched Man on Fire. The original one with Scott Glenn and Joe Pesci, Pesci gives a good performance, forgot he was in it.

Pacific Heights is a pretty good movie. I thought it should have been more of a slow burner but after watching it again, it was paced well. The acting's dodgy enough at times but Michael Keaton plays a great sleazy villain.

Dan Hedaya is also in one scene. He turns up in everything.

Oh yea, I forgot about Pacific Heights. It's been years since I've seen it. Always thought it was under rated. Yea, Keaton was a creep that's for sure. Good movie!

Weaver was super weird as the motel manager in touch of evil. Heston horribly miscast as a Mexican. I did like Janet Leigh party scene in the motel room. Just wish the scene would of lasted longer.

Emmett Otters Jug Band Christmas. Was an Hbo special I think when I was a kid. We have it on DVD now and I play it for my boys. Same guy who created the muppets did this. Wonderful little story.

I just watched The Pledge. Not the first time.I've seen it but the first time in ahile. Great movie, not really a well known one though. One of Jack Nicholson'd best and probably least known roles.

Cheech, what a great memory that was. This is so cool and I used to watch it every time it was on HBO. Mrs. Mark loves it as well.

I watched Grudge Match again. It's pretty good. There are several scenes or parallels with the Rocky movies. Stallone drinks the raw eggs again. He starts out in bad shape then slowly gets into shape a la Rocky. He has the bad eye which his manager demonstrates by slapping him just like in Rocky. Part of his training is in a pool just like in Rocky III. In the beginning, Stallone loses his laboring job just like he did in Rocky II. Also, he passes by a billboard of the fight and looks at it just like when he visited the arena the night before the fight in Rocky. I didn't pick up on any parallels with DeNiro's performance in Raging Bull.
