Kly, I remember Junket (aka Junket Rennet Custard) from my childhood, some 50+ years ago. It wasn't only a UK product, and until I just did a Google search, I had no idea it was still being manufactured (and by the same company, yet). I certainly haven't seen it in the NYC area in many, many years - unless I don't know where to look. Check out this Google search results page: Junket Rennet Custard Now, are you brave enough to order some? Signor V.

"No. Saints and poets, maybe... they do some."

Cowards! I have to honestly say that, IIRC, it really wasn't bad at all. A little sweet, and I remember the texture as being thicker than heavy cream, but not as heavy as oatmeal. But, what I find odd is that while it used to be advertised quite regularly on the TV when I was little, I haven't seen a mention of it commercially in at least 50 years. Puzzling... Signor V.

In Lecce: Italian Soul Food La cucina povera. Often translated as “the food of the poor,” the term seems unlikely to make mouths water or inspire serious foodies to blow their vacation budget on a cooking course.
But in and around the city of Lecce, deep in Italy’s heel, a crop of culinary schools and solo cooking teachers is encouraging travelers to embrace this traditionally marginalized food and to master the recipes of the extremely humble (and remarkably resourceful) local fare, which lies far at the other end of the culinary spectrum from haute cuisine.
Prepared with local produce, sundry leftovers and pastas, these unembellished peasant and working-class dishes are taking center stage.
“Over generations this human ingenuity began to take shape, so that really good things could be made from the humblest ingredients,” said Mr. Silvestori, an Italian-American from Michigan whose grandmother hailed from Lecce. “I’d liken ‘la cucina povera’ to ‘soul food,’ as the genesis for both was the profound necessity of the neglected and subjugated.”
"When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives." Winter is Coming
Now this is the Law of the Jungle—as old and as true as the sky; And the wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die. As the creeper that girdles the tree-trunk, the Law runneth forward and back; For the strength of the Pack is the Wolf, and the strength of the Wolf is the Pack.

I was out shopping and we stopped at Dunkin Donuts for coffee. I tried one of their pumpkin pie donuts. I was leery at first, and I rarely eat that stuff to begin with. I'd rather have a nice Italian cookie, like a biscotti or a pignoli cookie. But I have to say, it was DELICIOUS. It's almost like a glazed donut without the hole, filled with cream and topped off with pumpkin pie crumbs. Next time you're in a Dunkin Donuts give it a try .

Oh my, I haven't had panettone French toast in a looong time. That's all I like it for is French toast. The wiseguys make a killing on Panettone. Whatever doesn't sell at Christmas they give to the drywall union . I'm being harsh, though. It's pretty good if you butter it and dunk it in your coffee, too .

Double espresso, biscotti, a broadsheet newspaper, a gentle summer breeze and all the pretty girls walking by in their summer clothes. Scotch on the rocks, soft music playing, a balmy summer evening, and all the MEN tending to their duties, feeding me grapes, reciting poetry, running their fingers through my hair, while massaging my deeply tanned glowing skin scented with cocoa butter Ha ha

I'm all out of panettone...bummer. All I can hear is that Air Supply song; "I'm all out of Panettone, what am I without you?.." so true that's how I feel plus NO GIANT game here so I'm a little bit pissed off When you say you are always hungry. All I can hear are the old Italian ladies saying THAT Mark he sure is a GOOD eater. Such a WONDERFUL boy... Yeah and my grandma saying; "Eat something... you'll feel better!" So true. That's exactly right. when I was born my mom had to stay in the hospital for 8 weeks so I was the community family baby I was over fed those Italian aunts had my mouth stuffed with a bottle or a pacifier 24/7

Oh yea, eating AND eating a lot, in an Italian family is in the DNA. Not to mention every holiday at my grandma's. She'd get up mid dinner, grab the platter of pasta or steak or whatever the meal was, and plop down more food in everyone's dish whether they were half done, full or whatever. LOL On occasions when I had a friend with me, they were absolutely amazed at the amount of food. LOL Yea, those were the days!! TIS
