God, you know how much I love Sinatra, Tis. But I remember Frank covering an entire album of McKuen songs during his "hip" phase. I cringe when I see those videos now. Sinatra with a flower in his Beatles Bangs wig just wasn't a natural fit lol.

Yes, I have memory of a Sinatra pic during his Mia Farrow stage, wearing love beads as well. Ha ha ha! lol

McKuen wrote the song "Jean," that I think Donovan had a hit of. He did "Love's Been Good to Me," that Sinatra and Cash and others recorded, and Frank's "A Man Alone."

Oh you mean the song Jean ("Jean Jean Roses are Red...?") That I believe was sung by Oliver. It was from the movie, "The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie." Yea, I like that song too. I didn't realize just how many good songs he wrote. smile

Rod McKuen did not write the original versions of "If You Go Away" ("Ne Me Quitte Pas") and "Seasons in the Sun" ("Le Moribond"). They were written by Jacques Brel. McKuen wrote English-language adaptations that still have many purists cringing.

However, McKuen did write something many years ago that made a permanent, lasting impression on me: the book Finding My Father: One Man's Search For Identity. It was his first work of non-fiction, and came out in the 1970's.

That is the book to read.

Thanks SV, I knew "If You Go Away" is a French song but didn't know French title. smile It's a beautiful song.

MPete,

Oliver also sang, if you remember, "Good Morning Starshine" which was from the very popular musical, Hair. smile

This is premature, but Whitney Houston's daughter was found unresponsive in a hotel.

Actress Lizabeth Scott passed away on January 31st, she was 92. Best remembered being in a lot of film noir like Dead Reckoning, Pitfall, and Too Late for Tears. She also was in Scared Stiff, and Loving You (along side Elvis). RIP

Looks like they're getting ready to pull the plug. So sad, and the circumstances are so eerie (the bathtub and all).

From Fox News:

Georgia police have opened a criminal investigation into the events that led to Whitney Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina lying unconscious and facedown in a bathtub after apparently suffering an overdose, a report said Friday.

The probe will focus on Bobbi’s boyfriend Nick Gordon – with whom Bobbi has a history of domestic violence, law-enforcement sources told TMZ. Bobbi had injuries that raised suspicion, and investigators are looking into a possible altercation that took place over an hour before the aspiring singer was found in the bathtub in her home in the Atlanta suburb of Roswell, Ga., the web site said.

Yea Oli, I heard that. What was fishy is, both said they were married and yet her father says not and there is no record of a marriage. They found bruises on her body that they think happened that night possibly by her boyfriend.

I think they said that Whitney Houston died on Feb. 11, 2012. How sad this whole thing is, but to be so close to the day her mother died is really sad. frown

(CNN)After an illustrious golf career that spanned more than four decades, one of the sport's legends has died.

Billy Casper, a pioneer of professional golf, died at the age of 83, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported. The PGA posted news of Casper's death as well, describing him as "one of the most prolific PGA TOUR winners in history and long considered among the sport's finest putters." His resume included three major titles and 51 PGA Tour events -- putting him seventh on the U.S circuit's all-time list.

Seemed he was always in the running on a Sunday in the '60s and '70s.

One of his contemporaries, Charlie Sifford, died last week.

Yep. That was him. He was still working; he did voice-overs recently for the Antenna TV channel.

Owens was kind of a forerunner of Leslie Nielsen and the others in the Zucker-Abrahams movies, playing a part completely straight while spouting utter nonsense.

Bob Simon was killed in a car accident. He was actually one of a few "journalists" that I didn't mind watching.

I remember Gary Owens. Always liked the guy.

Here's two more:

David Carr, 58, media critic and journalist at the New York Times.

Stan Chambers, 91, longtime reporter for Los Angeles TV station KTLA. He was the first one to report about the video that recorded Rodney King being beaten by police officers in 1991.

So with Bob Simon that makes three journalists/reporters dying in a row. What's the claim about people dying in threes?
