Of course he did...however the instructions should have been kill him at any cost. Didn't he run into a Chinese restaurant of something to escape. They should have followed him in and finished the job.

The small strip mall where this failed hit took place exists to this day, same street layout (in terms of one way etc) also.
As I recall, Casso was hit by shotgun pellets, while the second shooter's (bad Nicky Guido, I believe) gun jammed. The car took off-- its REAL New York license plate was made (they fucked up & didn't put stolen plates on), and Casso stumbled into the Chinese restaurant.
I forget if someone called an ambulance or if he called someon to pick him and take him hospital.
As for finishing the job, it's almost certain they thought Casso was dead-- that the shotgun blast enough and that it wasn't necessary to get out of the car and check. Remember it's daylight, late afternoon, plenty of people around...
