You're not imagining it. It's not just the mafia that works that way. How many times privileged kids get spots in colleges, fraternities or whatever because of their relatives being in those same places. It's natural.

This was especially true during the Gotti era Gambinos. Everybody who was even halfway related to someone close to the administration was getting their kid made at 25.
