Seems to me that this family either let's or it's members just decide to retire much more often than other families.
That's one of the biggest myths out there, buddy: That you're not allowed to retire. Sure, you have to "get permission." But when you're 80 years old, no one is going to stop you, especially if you were well respected as a younger guy.
And more often than not, some of the old timers just get put out to pasture, especially when they stop earning. And sometimes it creates resentment. It turned Georgie Barone into a rat, and in his younger days that would have been unthinkable.

ALL of the Families, not just the Genovese. You just read more about the Genovese guys because they're more "newsworthy."
