True Detective is an American crime drama television series created and written by Nic Pizzolatto. The series is broadcast by the premium cable network HBO in the United States, and premiered on January 12, 2014. The first season, consisting of eight episodes, starred Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Michelle Monaghan, Michael Potts, and Tory Kittles. The second season premiered on June 21, 2015, and stars Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch, Kelly Reilly, and Vince Vaughn.[1][2] Pizzolatto initially conceived the series as a novel, but later, as it began taking definite form, felt it was better suited for television. Engineered as an anthology, each season of True Detective introduces new cast ensembles, characters, settings, and self-contained narratives. The show's first season is set in Louisiana and follows a pair of Louisiana State Police homicide detectives (McConaughey and Harrelson), and their pursuit of a serial killer over the course of seventeen years. The second season takes place in California and follows the interweaving stories of officers from three cooperating police departments (Farrell, McAdams, and Kitsch) and a criminal-turned-businessman (Vaughn) after the body of a corrupt city manager is found on the side of a highway. True Detective has been highly acclaimed by critics and was cited as one of the strongest programs on American television during its first season.[3][4][5][6][7] The first season was a candidate for numerous television awards, including a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Drama Series and Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Miniseries or Television Film, and won several other honors recognizing its writing, cinematography, direction, and acting. -------------------------------------------------- Only watched the first season last month, which was a great story,

I watched all of season one. While I think it may be a bit overrated, I DID enjoy it. It was different than many shows and I liked it enough to watch episode one of Season two. I thought it was a decent episode but must admit I have never been a huge fan of Vince Vaughn, which made me hesitant to even watch. BUT, I plan to continue for now. Btw, Colin Farrell's character had extreme method of handling school bully no? TIS

SPOILERS FOR EPISODE 2Ok, I just got to see Sunday's episode. WTF happened?? How can Colin Farrell's character be dead (at least this soon)? Better yet, what's a scenario in which he'd be still alive? I mean he was shot close range in the chest. Yet, I can't believe his time is up. AND, what's with the Raven costume? I was reading some comments on this in the Yahoo story and someone mentioned that in first episode, there was a cab driver who had this hat on the seat by him. I can't remember the scene at all. Well, I guess I would have to say this was a real "pick me up" from the first episode but I am baffled. TIS

Anyone watch the season finale last night? SPOILERThis season was kind of confusing (I may watch couple episodes again) but I actually liked it. Wow, didn't expect two main characters to die Never cared much for Vince Vaughn but he was good in this role, as was Colin Farrell. TIS

Finale episode was great, Same as season 1 , story was just slow at building up Yea, I think it was good. I really don't get the Season 2 bashing. The show is different. I liked both seasons myself. TIS
