It was actually a made guy in his crews daughter ...Sabato "Sammy mints" Mauro.
There were probably several reasons he was busted down...he had been caught withholding money in 57 and was forced to wait in the garage while the bosses discussed his fate at Appalachian. He was also tight with the Gallo brothers, involved in jukebox and vending machine business with them so when they went to war in the early sixties there was a conflict of interests there but I think it was when Mauro complained about the affair was when carmine was taken down in 1965 and forced to divorce his wife of 25 plus years to marry Mauro's daughter.

Interestingly Mauro was clipped a couple of years later 68/69?

That section wasn't always rich. Even the Ramones wrote a song about how it was sketchy. Nowadays it si obviously super rich, but walking the area especially the lower numbered avenues, you get a sense it wasn't always that way.

Not that it really matters but East 69th Street IS the upper east side. Murray Hill is the East 30s. Upper east side is east 59th street to east 96th street. All of it is pretty well off, but the really wealthy part is near Central Park. The upper east corner of the neighborhood (yorkville) is relatively reasonable and some good deals can be found there. Sorry - I'm in NY real estate.

Thanks, Benny. That's good info.

I found another article about Arcuri in the NY Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2002/06/22/nyregi...t-of-sight.html

It says he was actually based on East 76th steet, at the "Victory Star Social Club". So, yeah, he was way north of Murray Hill. It's interesting to me because you rarely here of mobsters based in that stretch of Manhattan.

where was his club on 76? trying to picture what it is today. as far as guys being based out of the neighborhood its rarer than other areas but quite a few have lived there. patty deflippo lived on 74th and 1st for a while before the federal BOP decided to give him a new home. jackie damico lives somewhere around 86th too i saw him last month hanging out with a few geezers in front of the chipotle on 85h and 3rd avenue, guy looks like he hasnt aged a day since those pics he is in with gotti in the late 80s

Without being demoted from that position, (excluding bump ups and acting administration members) Two stick out to me in New York, Angelo Caruso of the Bonannos, and Giovanni Dicarlo of the Lucchese family. There are more but can't remember them. That information comes from Sam the Plummer tapes.

I would have to add Mario Gigante to this list. He is retired now most likely, but he was a captain from the the early 70's, until atleast the mid 2000's or so. He has atleast 30+ years as a Captain under his belt. He's been on a few ruling panels to.
