Just wanted to add that LaGuardia had a Jewish mother (from an illustrious family), and he was raised Episcopalian.

I know most NY'ers know that, but I'm not sure if it's as well known outside the area.

All God's children are not beautiful. Most of God's children are, in fact, barely presentable.

I never met anyone who didn't have a very smart child. What happens to these children, you wonder, when they reach adulthood?

La Guardia was a brilliant man a hero to many Italian- Americans. But he did not have to live in the slums or deal with gangsters during his childhood. He led more of a privileged life. To me, it makes all the difference when going after gangsters, was easy for him. I hope that makes sense.

Apart from Kennedy and Obama, has any President not being a WASP, Dutch or German?

Ronald Reagan was half-Irish but he had to tone that down for his base.

Yes I agree that every ethnic group was discriminated against but the Italians, Hispanics, and blacks when doing well in life will be questioned whether or not they became successful legitimately. So I have to disagree with you about how different ethnicities are judged. We always have to explain ourselves.

once you start getting into fourth and fifth generation, your not getting an "Italian" anything.

By that time their as Americanised as the next minority group. If your father or grand father was the one that came out, OK, after that ?

Wonder-bread wops is the term, I believe.

Think the boats sailed on this one.

I read that Hayden Panettiere is so american that can't correctly spell his surname. It's true ?

and anybody who does that risks monumental embarrassment. when I worked in Saudi Arabia a lot of the good old boys from America automatically assumed the Arabs were stupid .they learned some very cruel lessons. the folks questioning are often ignorant stupid people.

Very true about Guiliani. The Clintons dragged him through a lot of crap. He was stronger than Paul, and I think he was equal with Huckabee but he had to drop out of the race due to all the negativity. Before all that he had Florida and Louisiana in a strong grip, and was gaining ground in Georgia and South Carolina. I think he ranked third during the primary in either Florida or Louisiana even though he dropped out at the start of the new year of 2008.

The fact is you really need to pick up a couple of Southeastern states to actually have a chance to win the presidency, and those states are strong with the Baptists.
