Just watched this film recently and putting all politics aside it really is just a mediocre /shitty film. When i found out it had been nominated for a lot of oscars, i was puzzled as to what deemed it oscar worthy, the hammy dialogue, boring war sequences oh yes and his fake baby.

Clint Eastwood needs to retire.

Hey, you are definitely entitled to your opinion. And with that being said, in my opinion, this was a very powerful movie. I know that when I first saw it on the big screen, the scenes where they were going house to house / door to door with all kinds of shooting and stuff going on, it made me, as a viewer, feel as though I was in the midst of what was going on. Sitting in my seat I could relate to the feelings of anxiety and confusion that those young soldiers probably felt going through that real life situation.

Not only did the director do a great job conveying to the viewer what those soldiers were feeling and experiencing, but Bradley Cooper did an outstanding job in his role. In those scenes where there were children in his sights who potentially may have been looking to kill U.S. Soldiers, etc, Cooper does an unbelievable job making the viewer feel and understand what Chris Kyle was feeling mentally, physically and emotionally in those situations.

I just wish he had killed even more Islamic terrorists.

I just didn't see it that way. It wasn't the worst film ever but its definitely forgettable. the action scenes were fairly standard, there wasn't anything innovative or immersive about the filming. Compare it to other war films for instance like saving private ryan, platoon or full metal jacket.

The storyline seemed pretty standard too, man goes to war comes back, can't adjust, goes back bla de bla etc etc. The whole over the top sheepdog speech his dad gives made me cringe and I'm pretty sure I've heard the same thing in different movies before.

Id put it in the same camp as the notorious big film they made in 2009, its ok but not some masterpiece worthy of awards. Nothing set it apart other than the fact it was based on a true story, his own book in fact. His books more interesting, he put a bunch of crazy shit in it that may or may not have happened such as he was shooting looters during katrina, he killed two car jackers, he knocked out jesse ventura. Any of this stuff would have given the movie something different.

I thought it was a decent film, but not one i would revisit in the near future..

Did i mention the plastic baby.

I thought it was a great film. Has 72% on RT.

I saw once last year I would probably have to wqtch it again but I thought it was a little dry, when I saw it I was expecting more of a Lone Survivor type film. For what it is a biographical drama it is decent, Bradley Cooper wad good as Chris Kyle, I would be interested on checking out the book to see how accurate the movie is.

It was nowhere near the movie Hurt Locker (my opinion) Jeremy Renner was incredible.

Good but not great

I agree Cooper looked like Kyle and had some same mannerisms, but his FAKE Southern accent was the only thing I hated about the movie. The action scenes were no where as good as Lone Survivor like you mentioned but it wasn't horrible either.

As for the book I've read it, the movie stayed dead on to the book even though like Foots said the book had a little more crazy stuff added in. Who knows if it's true or not, but lets just say Ventura sued Kyle's estate over the claim and I think won. Of course the black eye Ventura got over it he'll never be able to run for office again. But Eastwood did good keeping true to the book, and there was no way they could add the Ventura bit to the film or he'd probably be fighting him in court too.
