SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) — Beth Howland, the actress best known for her role as a ditzy waitress on the 1970s and '80s CBS sitcom "Alice," has died. She was 74.
Her husband, actor Charles Kimbrough, told The Associated Press that Howland died Dec. 31 of lung cancer in Santa Monica, California. He said there had been no announcement, funeral or memorial service because that's how she wanted it.
"That was her choice," he said.
Howland was born May 28, 1941, in Boston. At 16, she landed a role on Broadway alongside Dick Van Dyke in "Bye Bye Birdie." CBS later noticed Howland on stage in the 1970 production of "Company" and brought her to Hollywood for a bit part on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show."
"Generosity. That was my first mistake." "Experience must be our only guide; reason may mislead us." "Instagram is Twitter for people who can't read."

SC, that's awesome! Actor Barry Pearl (my mom's distant cousin who played Doody in the film Grease; and speaking of signatures, I have a pic that both he and Rickles have signed ;)) posted this on FB: "I was walking up 8th Ave. in NYC, circa 1962, about to pass the old Madison Square Garden and I see this guy looking up at the marquee as they're putting his name up...Cassius Clay. I stop and shake his hand. Mine felt like a pea in his. "Fade out, fade in, I'm at NBC in 1976 doing CPO SHARKEY with Don Rickles. Our studio is directly across from Carson's TONIGHT SHOW. Our shows shared the makeup area so we'd get to meet all the celebs that he'd have on as guests. This one time, Ali was a guest. Got to meet him again and tell him about meeting him in '62 on 8th Ave. in front of the old Garden at the beginning of his rise." As for me, Ali was always an icon since childhood. It was sad to hear about the Parkinson's, and seeing him suffer for years. RIP, Champ!
I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! lol Whaddaya want me to do? Whack a guy? Off a guy? Whack off a guy? --Peter Griffin My DVDs | Facebook | Godfather Filming Locations

There were some questions in some of his fights. The fight against Listen. Listen was going to kill him. Then Ali hit him with the fantham punch that knocked listen out that no one saw. Ali said he hit him with an anchor punch that no one ever saw Everyone thought listen took a dive I thought that myself. Then the biggie the fight against foreman in Africa. the ring was fixed so Ali could lean back on the ropes well over 2 feet to keep foremen from taging him when foreman had him against the ropes.that was redicules a joke. Foreman got tired and ran out of gas. See it on YouTube.

Gordie Howe has died. One of the greats. Without a doubt, one of the greats! Madison Square Garden lost two of its big draws within a week. I went there often in the mid/late '60s to see the Rangers play and Detroit (lead by Howe) was always a fun matchup. Gordie was already considered an "older" player by then but he was always very well-respected by fans and opponents as well. R.I.P. #9
