I am trying to get some good information on the Mob in Syracuse between 1945 and 1965. The situation there is obscure to me. The top name (or at least the biggest one I have) was Sam Scro, whose front was the Darling Ice Cream Company. I am not sure if he ran the local mob chapter or not, but it seems likely from what I have read. Scro was originally from Auburn (which was run by Sam Monachino) and he moved to Syracuse in about 1947. His name came up in the Apalachin investigation and before the McClellan Committee. Scro was godfather to one of Joe Barbara's daughters, and his son Vicente supposedly had an important position with Steve Maggadino in Buffalo. He also enjoyed good relations with Sam Monachino and with the Falcones in Utica. I am trying to find out more about Scro and the Syracuse mob generally, and in particular I'd like to know whether Scro answered to Maggadino, Barbara, someone else, or whether he was a franchiser in his own right. The other names I have in Syracuse are Sam Silver and Anthony (Mitzie) Tucci, both big-time bookies. Pictures of Scro or any of his men would be nice. I am particularly interested in a Syracuse drinking place called the Allied Crafts Club (126 1/2 South Sallina Street), a big gambling spot. Thanks to anyone who knows anything.

Angelo Aquisto had Anthony DeStefano become capo of Syracuse when he became underboss with Stefano Magaddino blessing.

Antonio Tocco, I believe was made into the Bonanno family, while Bonventre was the boss. He moved to Syracuse right after the war, and remained in contact with the Bonanno family. He went to Endicott once a week. He passed away in 1968.
Giuseppe Monte, very little is known about him, but he was a bookie outside of Syracuse, had the Sheriff department on his payroll, and had a gambling establishment a little away from Syracuse. He came from the Harlem and was close to Gaetano Reina, Joe Masseria, Frank Costello and Anthony Carfano. Most likely made in Genovese family. Moved to Syracuse after WW2. Nothing known about him since then, with the exception of DeStefano on a wire with Frank Pelli and two unidentified members complaining that no amount of money is worth Old Joe being around and New York needs to take him out of his city, DeStefano even degraded the Maggadino brothers. May have passed away after 1966.

would you know if frank bagozzi from syracuse was made ?

Frank Bagozzi was only an associate, first on record with Aquisto, then with DeStefano. His name popped up in a FBI recording (illegal tap) when he, Joey G, Paul from Corning, and another guy were arrested by New York State Troopers on gambling charges. Even though he was a good earner, the guy from Rochester, and the Maggadino brothers blocked him being proposed for membership, this was back in the 1930's and I could never figure out who that guy from Rochester was.

Joseph Guarnier, and Paul Yolez (many different alias, but I believe that is his name). The fourth guy arrested was the informer, and they kept a lot of info of him out of the papers.

No. He was good friends with John Caiazzo, who setup fights, Anthony DeStefano, and Frank Orlando, but Basilio knew a lot of members of the mob. Italian boxers always rubbed shoulders with them. There is a picture from 1950 I think, in it, it has Anthony DeStefano, Frank Orlando, John Caiazzo, Rosario Mancuso from Auburn, there are two Rosario Mancuso, one from Auburn was made, the one from Syracuse may have been made. Peter Maggadino, before he switched to the Bonannos, Tommy Eboli and Frank Carbo from New York, Frank Adragna from Pittsburgh, with four other unidentified men in the photo. A setup like that would make people believe he is with the mob, even thought it was at a social event of some sort. I have seen nothing that would make me say he was with the mob. That's my honest opinion.

When you say Zips were operating in Syracuse during that period,in what capacity do you mean these guys operated?
Do you mean apart from the Cosa Nostra?
