Boss Giuseppe Graviano did not respond to the judges in the State-Mafia trial, he had to report on taped conversations with another detainee. The boss could avoid responding to the Court as he was investigated in a related proceeding, which allowed him to remain silent. Graviano should have reported on some of his conversations in prison with the detainee Umberto Adonolfi. Dialogues, intercepted for months, were considered relevant for the negotiation process. During the conversations, the capomafia had narrated the alleged favors received by Silvio Berlusconi to which Cosa Nostra would have taken a hand in the early 90s massacres.

Mafia boss ordered hit on daughter who went out with cop
Son refused to carry it out

(ANSA) - Palermo, October 30 - A Mafia boss ordered his son to kill his daughter after she had a relationship with a Carabiniere, police said after the boss was among 15 arrested in a sweep against Cosa Nostra Monday.
"Your sister has become a cop," Bagheria boss Pino Scaduto told his son.
But the son refused to carry out his father's order for fear of ending up in jail, police said.
"I didn't want to be burned for doing it," he reportedly said on a police wiretap.
Police said the 'New Dawn' operation had dealt a "heavy blow" to Scaduto's clan.

Italian police on Friday arrested 17 people saying they had "decapitated" a Palermo Mafia clan.

The operation is a continuation of others against the 'mandamento' of Porta Nuova over the last six years and enabled police to decapitate the Borgo Vecchio clan, police told reporters.

Police said they had found the "master book" detailing all the clan's activities.

Maxi blitz against the Mafia in Palermo, 27 arrests "So the affiliates elected the new boss"

Operation against the Santa Maria of Jesus family. The allegations are drug trafficking, extortion, abusive bait exercise

A maximal operation of the Rosabian carabinieri and the provincial command of Palermo is underway this morning to make 27 arrests. People in handcuffs are affiliated with the mafia family of Santa Maria di Gesù in Palermo. The allegations: mafia association, extortion, abusive gambling and betting exercise, drug trafficking, fraudulent transfer of values.

The actions of the operation called "Falco" come from a complex investigation carried out by Ros against the mafia family of Santa Maria di Gesù in Palermo, "the investigators explain. The investigation allowed "to verify the internal reorganization process of the partnership and the pervasive ability to infiltrate the local economic fabric, reconstructing the organization chart of the associates and identifying the current vertices, designated through a real electoral mechanism involving the men of honor. "

Sicilian judge Saguto indicted (3)
Wrongdoing in handling seized Mafia assets

(ANSA) - Caltanissetta, March 31 - A prelinianry hearings judge on Friday indicted suspended Palermo judge Silvana Saguto and other suspects charged with wrongdoing in the handling of seized Mafia assets.
Saguto is accused by prosecutors in Caltanissetta of alleged corruption and abuse of office in collusion with judicial administrative staff and family members.
In October last year prosecutors ordered the urgent precautionary seizure of money and property allegedly deriving from crimes attributed to Saguto and her alleged accomplices.
Saguto was suspended by the Supreme Council of Magistrates (CSM), which is the judiciary's self-governing body, late in 2015 on the request of Justice Minister Andrea Orlando and Supreme Court Prosecutor Pasquale Ciccolo.
The "gravity" of her alleged behaviour has led to an "irreparable loss of prestige", the CSM said at the time.

Boy, 6, used to distribute drugs in Catania
36 people arrested

(ANSA) - Catania, November 30 - A six-year-old boy was among those used to distribute drugs by a criminal organisation in the Sicilian city of Catania, police said Thursday after raiding the 'fortress' of the Librino district and arresting 36 people for pushing marijuana and cocaine. "This boy was deprived of a future," investigators told a press conference. They said efforts would be made to try to "recuperate" him to a normal life as soon as possible.

Dell'Utri release bid turned down
Ex-Berlusconi aide pled poor health

(ANSA) - Rome, December 7 - A Rome detention review court on Thursday rejected a plea by Marcello Dell'Utri, an ailing former aide of ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi serving seven years for mafia links, to be released from jail on health grounds.
Dell'Utri, who is suffering heart problems as well as cancer, is being held in Rome's Rebibbia Prison.
Filing the plea, Dell'Utri told his lawyers that he is at the end of his tether.
"I can't go on, I feel worn-out and tired," Dell'Utri told them a few days ago, the lawyers told the hearing.
But Rome Prosecutor-General Pietro Giordano told the court he opposed the ex-Senator's plea, saying that Dell'Utri's condition was compatible with prison detention.
Giordano's argument ran counter to that of experts appointed by his office, who had said Dell'Utri should be released from jail.
Dell'Utri's lawyers said a rejection of his plea to be released could have "serious psychological repercussions" on their client, who was already "exhausted" by his prison experience.
The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has asked the Italian government to assess whether keeping Dell'Utri in jail is a violation of his rights not to be subjected to inhuman or degrading treatment.
The request was made during the conveying to Rome of documents related to an appeal filed in Strasbourg on December 20, 2014, by Dell'Utri.
Dell'Utri, a former right-hand man of Berlusconi's, is not entitled to early release because of the gravity of the mafia-related crimes he was convicted of, Italy's highest court ruled in October.
External collaboration in mafia association is a crime excluded from those where early release can be granted, the court said. Dell'Utri is serving seven years for colluding with the mafia in Palermo.
The 76-year-old former close aide to three-time ex-premier and media mogul Berlusconi and co-founder of Berlusconi's Forza Italia party was convicted in 2014 of acting as an ambassador between the centre-right group and the Cosa Nostra Mafia in his native Sicily.
He was extradited from Beirut to serve his sentence.
Dell'Utri is also the former head of the media magnate's advertising arm and is credited with creating the media mogul's Forza Italia party in 1993, six months before it swept to victory in general elections.
In addressing the Strasbourg court, Dell'Utri said he had been convicted on the basis of a law that came into force after he committed the crimes he was convicted of.
He added that the charges against him were vague and imprecise.

True, like you said last year always during these weeks major operations in southern Italy. I wouldn't be suprised if Diabolik is celebrating Christmas outside Trapani, much safer and he isn't a guy who is hiding in a small farmhouse without TV and all the other stuff like Provenzano.

Four gunshots, one in the chest, one in the arm and two in the legs for Vincenzo Selvaggio, 27 years old. The attempted murder took place in the Zen 2 district in Palermo. The young man has family members who live there but lives in Zisa. His prognosis is reserved but he would not be in danger of life. Selvaggio has a criminal record for drug crimes.

Mafia and drugs, seizure of assets of 600 thousand euros in Palermo
23 December 2017

PALERMO. Goods for 600 thousand euros were seized from Tommaso Catalano, 56 years old. The provision, carried out by the police, was ordered by the Prevention Measures section of the Palermo court, at the suggestion of the quaestor.

Catalano ended up in investigations for drug dealing and possession of weapons since 1985.

In December 2015, he was arrested as part of the "Panta Rei" operation, together with 38 other people responsible for various crimes of criminal association, mafia, extortion, illicit drug trafficking and illegal detention of weapons.

Catalano, together with his son Pietro and others, was investigated for his membership in a traffic for hashish and cocaine between Campania and Sicily.

It was initially thought Messina Denaro might take over Cosa Nostra after the recent death of jailed boss of bosses Totò Riina.
But Italian police have since said there will be a power struggle, as well as negotiations, among various Sicilian Mafia factions.

Article about the situation in Catania.
The big names of the mafia gang at this time are in prison at 41bis. In this moment of organizational reorganization, the new levers come forward, very young, ready to command their small kingdom of the shop. But there are also new leaders who do not come from the mafia but have the money to buy drugs and supply the historic squares of the shop.
The narcos replacing the old bosses.
