Starting this from another thread....

My vote on biggest douchebag made man of all time is Bill Bonanno. He was always being interviewed and talked about "mafioso" and Sicily. In reality, he was a spoiled rich kid who rode his dad's coat tails to be a made man. He also looked like a total wimp.

A close 2nd would be Junior Gotti. He's a twitchy, blinky, irritating guy who would be ZERO without his dad. He lied about the proffer session until John Alite's book proved him a liar. If it wasn't for his dad being Boss, he would probably be working at Walmart.

Hard to argue with your top two choices...Agreed, both are very annoying and without their father's would be nobody's !!

I don't know about the biggest but from what read and know, Tony boy boiardo, the boots son was not well liked or respected. Only tolerated because of his dad.

IDK about the BIGGEST of ALL-TIME but a few that come to mind...

Tommy D. was supposed to be a pretty big scumbag. Was a noted rapist and a general loose cannon. Ran with some killers and junkies, was never seemingly respected or liked just feared for his temper.

Tony Mirra is another one. Maybe not as high profile a choice as you may have hoped for but Mirra was truly despised. The guy earned very well when he was on the outside, that being said he openly as unwelcome as anyone could be in the mafia while still being involved.

I've always said Casso just because of how unnecessary it was to double cross everyone who worked under him while he was on the run out of pure paranoia. Chiodo was never gonna rat, D'Arco was never gonna rat. I think having Eppolito and Carracappa was a double edged sword that saved his life a few times but definitely got in his way in several others.

Sam DeStefano is another one. Quality throwback Chicago guy who was an animal. Killed his own brother when it could have been worked out otherwise. Kidnapped the first black guy he saw on the street after an argument with his wife and brought him home to rape his wife at gunpoint.
Was a noted psycho and not well reputed on the streets. After he was killed even for being one of the top earners of his time, his funeral was scarcely attended.

Frank Schweis is another Chicago guy from the next era after DeStefano. He was an actual monster.Killed everything that moved, was the most feared guy in Chicago for decades. Whenever a racket was restructured, Schweis would handle logistics and he was absolutely one of the best ever at that. Not sure anyone terrified people quicker when they walked into a room in Chicago for about a 50 year period.

Agree about Genovese but it's hard to see Roy as just a "douchebag" Having read both Murder Machine and Albert DeMeo's book, I'm inclined to believe most of Albert's stuff compared to most of Dom Montiglio's. He's a lot more believable. I know it's his dad, I'm not saying he's not biased, but Montiglio was hardly a player and you can tell he wants to blame as much stuff on Roy as possible, always trying to darken his already pitch-black character. I do believe Roy did at least half of the stuff claimed on Murder Machine, but I also am inclined to believe Albert on some other stuff, his human side, etc.. and apparently Roy was very generous.

Guy's from other family's hated Genovese for the same reason so many hated Bonnanno..because they had big balls...They were loved by their own guys !!

Desimone seemed to be very well liked by his friends as well, no matter how crazy !!

And one last thing Genovese, he might have been hated, but he was respected which clowns like Jr. Gotti and Bonanno jr. weren't !!

I chose Genovese because he had a guy (who was apparently not involved in the mob) whacked because he liked the guy's wife. And I chose DeMeo because they killed innocent people including a young girl. I agree about Montiglio, though, I can't believe he was around that crew and never got his hands dirty. He was probably up to his neck in blood like the rest of them.

I will go out on a limb here and say Genovese was not the brilliant boss he is made out to be. (Just my opinion, of course) If Vito never made his move and taken over the family, maybe the Appalachin meeting does not happen, and Joe Valachi never flips. Who knows how many years the mob would have been remained a secret like the old days.

I would choose Salvatore Granello (child rapist) and Sam DeStefano (devil worshipper who forced his wife and a random man he took hostage, to have sex).

But for these 2 the word "douchebag" is too weak imo. And reading about DeStefano, if what's written about him is even 30% true, he was probably insane in the full sense of the word imo. Unless he was even better than Gigante in faking craziness, but that hostage episode with forced sex is too much for someone who is just "pretending".

Genovese was likely set up by his own guys and the Bonanno family went through the Banana War towards the end of Bonanno's tenure.

We are talking about a guy who ran from a murder, went to Italy. Somehow talks himself into the inner circle of fuckin Mussolini, runs all kinds of drugs and even talks someone into letting him control a bank. When the US comes, he switches sides, Uses the ARMY to run a huge black market. Then comes back to the states, somehow gets ALL his rivals to beat his murder FOR HIM(!!!!??)

Plots the downfall of the boss for ten years... And wins?!!

Saying Genovese wasn't smart is very naive. He was a piece of shit for sure, but a consummate criminal his whole career. I think it was the writer of Mob Summitt, or maybe Douglas Valentine described him as " the smartest of the bosses in NY"....( personally I would say Luchesse..)

Everything you said is true CG, but like someone else already pointed out, we can't deny that Genovese arguably did the most damage to the LCN out of all the old bosses. Without him Apalachin and Valachi's testimony, the two most revealing and damaging things ever to happen to the organization, would not have happened.

Him too. As you know Malandrino Craig had no business being in the Mob and Greg was a much hated guy for squeezing and belittling people and of course, running his big mouth. Best description I ever heard of him was, "He was the Typhoid Mary of the Mob"

Those are valid points. I don't think Vito Genovese was stupid, not at all.I could have worded my post above better. I think he was power hungry, underboss wasn't enough for him, he wanted it all. In the end, what did it get him? He died in jail.

I've heard from people who knew him that Robert "Cabert" Bisaccia was despised. He would just take other players money at card games when they were winning. They said that all of Silver Lake hated him.

Greg DePalma...good vote. He is up there in my Top 3. He was a loud mouth and he even irritated my #2 Douchebag Junior Gotti. DePalma annoyed Paul Castellano, Nino Gaggi, Junior Gotti and the FBI Agent Juaquin Garcia. DePalma would shoplift little stuff. He was loud and annoying. He's a classic D-Bag.

Let me throw out my #4 Douchebag: Skinny Joey Merlino. He stole from Scarfo and Leonetti. Phil wanted to kill him. Skinny Joey brings heat everywhere he goes. Stanfa hated him and wanted him dead. Skinny Joey doesn't pay his debts and is a deadbeat. He robbed his accomplices in the armored car heist. He "made" guys just for money. Every cop and fed wants to nail his ass. He takes pictures and posts them on Instagram. He drives a Rolls Royce and wears shorts. Didn't someone say he was wearing pink or light blue slacks recently? Very douchey.
