Tom Petty gone @ 66.

Note: this is not official yet. - SC

Variety and CBS News have updated their stories to state Tom Petty is “clinging to life,” citing TMZ’s report.

A rep for the LAPD declined to confirm his death to HuffPost and said information on the singer “was inadvertently provided to some media sources” in a tweet.

Has been confirmed by his manager and family. The original sources were trying to be 'first' in that announcement. RIP

Honestly, out of all the legendary rock stars, I was more worried hearing about Steven Tyler passing away (recent concert's were cancelled due to health). But, that's the reason why heart attacks are the worst and scariest thing to happen.

Legendary French actress/singer Danielle Darrieux died October 17 at age 100.

The only one who picked her was XDCX.

Time to update those lists!

Robert Guillaume, the urbane actor who received two Emmy Awards for portraying the acidic butler Benson on a pair of ABC sitcoms, died Tuesday. He was 89.

Guillaume, a baritone who also starred on the stage and voiced the wise mandrill Rafiki in The Lion King (1994) and its related sequels, video games and TV series, died at his home in Los Angeles, his wife, Donna Brown Guillaume, told the Associated Press. He had been battling prostate cancer.

So, I believe that leaves Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Chubby Checker from that time line (at least that I can think of that is well known). I know that quite a few of singers from that time has passed on really young.

This happened last month but I haven't seen it posted. Greg Antonacci passed away in September. Probably best known as Butchie from the Sopranos and John Torrio on Boardwalk Empire.

Dion is a couple years older than Chubby Checker and he's still recording. I'm not saying he's still relevant outside of his own fan base. Although I think it's plenty relevant for one of the only original rock and rollers to still be recording outside of oldies shows. And he still sounds good. Little Anthony is still around. There are a lot of others but you've probably never heard of them. Jimmy Beaumont just passed away. Voice like butter.

Bobby Rydell is around also. He's one of that south Philly group of singers that populated the heartthrob ranks of music back when.

Rydell could really sing, Oli. Of the three big solo acts from Philly back then, I'd rate Rydell first, Frankie Avalon second--and I give credit to Avalon for learning to sing at all because he was a teenaged trumpet player when he was initially discovered--and Fabian third. Fabian was awful. And I mean awful.

For some reason, I thought Dion passed away years ago, not sure if I was confusing him with someone else. And, I can't believe that I forgot Avalon (my dad was a big fan of the beach movies with Avalon and Funicello), but that probably made me think of him as an actor before singer.

Del Shannon, perhaps? Known for singing "Runaway", he died in February, 1990 (suicide).

Wanna feel old? Here is a fairly recent photo showing (l. to r.) Fabian, Frankie Avalon, Chubby Checker and Bobby Rydell.

Take a good look at the photo. Besides being former teen idols, can you guess what they all now have in common? (No, it's not Geritol... well, it might be...)

The answer: They're all wearing toupees! eek

Damn... I'm really feeling my years now... rolleyes
