He needs more players then is already on his team. If you remember Maradona team that won it in 1986. That team had a ton of great players.

I think Germany has a team that can win a WC again.

You mean that Foots?

I was too young to have seen the '86 Worldcup but from what I've picked up from documentaries, books and the media in general, Argentina's win was that more a testament to Maradona's brilliance because the only good players besides him were Burruchaga and Valdano..

Maradona is the reason Argentina won the 1986 WC, without him they wouldn't have come close to winning. Messi has always been surround by world class players. But still one of the best ever no doubt, his numbers and records speak for themselves.

Would Napoli have won the Serie A without Maradona, probably not.

The 1986 how many great players besides Maradona. They had Valdano, Burachaga great keeper Pompidou he lost a finger in practice. Had his wedding ring on it got caught on a nail holding up the net good bey finger and at least two or three other players.

When they did get behind which was not often they came right back. Valdano was a great finisher.

Plus they had the coaching Bilardo.

Pele had the best body type for our game at the time. Plus a good passer. He score most of his goals in the old Brazilian league they were not noted for their great defenses back then

I have a friend who is Dutch who coaches in the United States and is of Dutch. Loves Cryuff and why not he changed the game to what we know it today.

When I played I was a back they never let me attack. Cryuff got everyone into the attack. My coach did let us beat the first defender. That is how we created space for others. Plus he invented the Cryuff move where you can change your field of play without help from team mates.

As good as Gullit was, he can't be considered one of the greatest, i could think of 50 better players.. Of course your entitled to your opinion.. smile

George Best in 1990: "Ruud Gullit is a great player by any standards. He has all the skills. He's not afraid to do things with the ball. And he looks as if he's enjoying every second of it. By my reckoning that's what makes him an even better player than Maradona."

I don't agree he was better, but came very close. There is huge respect between the two. Oh man what a battles we have seen between them they made each other better!

When Maradona won the Italian championships with Naples. He had two other attacking players to work off of. Remember they called them Magica. It stood for Maradona, Giordono and the Brazilian star Careca.

Van Basten was a terrific striker but was unfortunate with injuries. Had he played a normal career and not retired with injuries then he could have been up there as on of the best strikers ever.

I've always preferred defenders with me being one. Paulo Maldini and Franco Barasi where for me one of the best ever.

DeNiro I agree with your post.

Maldini’s father was a terrific youth coach who taught his players man defense. Problem was when they hired him to coach the men’s national team. By that time none of their players played man defense. That was why the men’s national team did not do well under his father.

Former Celtic and Manchester United player and Ireland International Liam Miller has passed away at the young age of 36 after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a few months ago.

He scored a cracking goal in the first Ireland I ever attended (3-0 v Sweden).

R.I.P.

I remember when we signed him, there was high hopes pinned on him eventually replacing Roy Keane but it didn't work out for him.

So young- RIP

He's a hero, but his expiring date is coming closer. Maybe go for Peter Bosz in the summer?

When I think of Frank Rijkaard I can’t help but remember when he kept spitting in Voller’s hair from behind in the WC.

I never did that in soccer, but I have done it in American Football to get the offensive line men to go offside before the snap.

I always thought the game was always perfect. Even when they made changes to try and get more scoring.

When they changed the offside position rule. So you could be offside as long as you that offside positioned player did not effect the play. I thought if the keeper even looked at the offside position player that could effect the play so offside should be called against that offside positioned player.

Bottom line is if you were skillful and can control the ball in two touches or less you can still score not matter how the defense is numbers up against you. That was always true and it is true today. But if you cannot control the ball within those two touches most of the time you will not score against a great team defense.

That means you should always practice your skill work no matter how old you are. At a certain age most trainers think you don’t have to work on skills as much as you get older. But that my friends is bull shit.

Also the more ways you can attack the better.

Best advice I ever got from a coach was not if your winning don’t change what your doing. It was if your winning always change what your doing and make it better. Then you for years and hardly ever lose a game.

Juventus were dreadful yesterday. It was apparent early on that Spurs were good for an away goal and that Juventus were prone to collapse.

I can't see Juventus winning in London.

This could be the beginning of English domination in Europe.

Spurs and Liverpool have overtaken the likes of Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus IMO.

I have a funny feeling Arsenal will go in through the backdoor by winning the Europa League too.

As has been said, Napoli are one of their rivals for that, but surely they will concentrate on winning Serie A for the first time approximately 30 years.
