The EU Court rejected the proposed trademark for the Spanish restaurant chain "La mafia se sienta a la mesa" ("the Mafia sits at the table"), a choice that sees promoting Cosa Nostra as a synonym of quality in contrast with good taste and, above all, the fundamental principles on which the EU is based. No brand, then. It is "contrary to public order", according to the judges of Luxembourg. Via the signs then.

Witness reveals meeting with Messina Denaro: «He is protected by the 'Ndrangheta» 23/03/2018 - 18:01by Editorial Staff The weekly L'Espresso has collected the testimony of a 45-year-old Tuscan with "old friendships with Sicilians linked to Cosa nostra and Calabresi". The man told of having met him at the port of Palermo Witness reveals meeting with Messina Denaro: «He is protected by the 'Ndrangheta»
Rome - «I met Matteo Messina Denaro. I met him at the port of Palermo, then we had another appointment in Tuscany, where he is protected by men of the 'Ndrangheta. This is what a 45-year-old Tuscan would have revealed to L'Espresso: a subject - writes the weekly magazine that has published an anticipation of the story that will be published in the issue on Sunday - with some judicial misadventures and old friendships with Sicilians linked to Cosa nostra and Calabrese belonging to the clan of the 'ndrangheta. Friendships allowed him to get in touch with the men closest to the wanted number one. " The witness, says L'Espresso, "reveals meetings with Messina Denaro and the names of the people who assisted him. It also opens up new criminal scenarios in which the mafia is accused of murder and massacres. It turns out that the fugitive has obtained coverage also from exponents of the 'ndrangheta, the places in which he has lodged, and the territory he has attended. We learn of the increasingly precarious health conditions of the boss and the clinic in which he was treated. And it turns out that one of the fugitive's nephews is a magistrate serving in a prosecutor's office in Northern Italy. "
The revelations of the witness, according to the weekly, "are being examined by the magistrates of the District Anti-Mafia District Prosecutor of Florence, who has already found most of the statements, in some cases even with photographs documenting secret meetings with the entourage of Messina Denaro, delegating investigations at the Guardia di Finanza ".

This week the Palermo bosses Antonino Rotolo, Carmelo Cangemi, Salvatore Sorrentino and Giovanni Nicchi were sentenced to 12 years and eight months for cocaine dealing, with the aggravating circumstance of having facilitated the activity of Cosa Nostra. The trial was removed from the main proceedings, the sentence of which has become final in 2012 with definitive sentences of more than two centuries in prison for the 18 convicted. Gianni Nicchi is done,he is young, but they locked him up long time. If not released for other reasons Nicchi is behind bars until 2028. Rotolo has life anyway the other two are fugitives.

Italy: police arrest 22 in search for Mafia fugitive Denaro Apr 19, 2018 Updated 29 min ago (0)
MILAN (AP) — Italian police have arrested 22 suspected Sicilian Mafiosi as part of an ongoing operation aimed at capturing Italy's most-wanted Mafia fugitive Matteo Denaro.
The raids Thursday in the Trapani province in western Sicily attacked the network of "pizzini," the system of paper notes that support Denaro's flight. Police said their aim is to "progressively take away power from the criminal organization and impoverish its economic resources."
Denaro, a fugitive since 1993, is considered a possible successor to the "boss of bosses" Salvatore "Toto" Riina, who died last year in custody while serving 26 life sentences.
The operation was the latest move to root out Denaro, 55, who has long evaded arrest for his role in the bombing assassination of magistrates in the 1990s, along with other Mafia hits and crimes.

http://www.grandangoloagrigento.it/...l-boss-messina-denaro-16-anni-al-nipote/Sister of fugitive godfather Matteo MessinaDenaro sentenced 14 years, nephew gets 16. http://www.italianinsider.it/?q=node/6652TRAPANI – The Cosa Nostra Sicilian mafia network, spearheaded by the highly sought-after Matteo Messina Denaro, was hit hard on Thursday morning, suffering a further setback after authorities confirmed the arrest of 22 alleged members of the group. Police, Carabinieri and Anti-Mafia Investigation Directorate (DIA) have ramped up the hunt for the fugitive head of the Sicilian Mafia. The raid in the province of Trapani intensifies the police grip on mafia affairs as they look to stamp out the illegal activity, particularly prominent throughout Sicily. The widespread, albeit seemingly weakening, influence of Cosa Nostra has burrowed into the region’s social and economic operations, largely preserved through the mafia’s fierce culture of intimidation. Authorities were able to identify, through the probe, Cosa Nostra’s pizzini notes, small paper annotations used by the Sicilian Mafia for high-level communications. The 22 arrested reportedly have ties to the mafia families of Castelvetrano, Campobello di Mazara and Partanna, all based in Trapani. They await further investigation under numerous charges including mafia association, extortion, damage, possession of weapons and fictitious registration of assets. The raid has given investigators a further insight into Cosa Nostra’s dealings, confirming Messina Denaro’s place at the head of the organisation as well as the heavy involvement of two of his brothers-in-law. Gaspare Como and Rosario Allegra, husbands of Bice and Giovanna Messina Denaro were amongst the 22 arrested. Thursday’s blitz also follows last month’s seizure of one of Denaro’s closest advisors, Salvatore Miceli, who received a 16-year sentence on charges of drug trafficking. The former narco boss had directed the vast illegal drug network between South America and Italy, earning him the nickname, “the Mafia’s foreign minister.â€

Nicola Amoroso, 37, has been captured in Germany, nicknamed Cola tri piedi, who has been wanted since last July. One of the most important fugitives in Italy and member of the Italian Crime Syndicate COSA NOSTRA, was arrested in Biebesheim (Germany). The dangerous fugitive was wanted by the Italian authorities because of his involvement in several crimes and because of his mafia affiliation (belonging to the Scalisi clan - Criminal organization of the mafia family Laudani of Catania). The arrest is the result of a fruitful exchange of information between Europol, the Italian and German police and it represents the first result of the 'Eurosearch' project, initiated by the Central Operations Service, which locate and captures dangerous mafia fugitives targets in Europe. Europol supported the investigation by providing analytical and operational support and by organising a dedicated operational meeting at its headquarter in The Hague.

The Court of Cassation has confirmed the convictions of over 200 years in prison on appeal to bosses and followers of the province of Palermo. The Roman judges reiterated the leading role of Antonino Sciortino who, at first instance, was acquitted and on appeal sentenced to 18 years. The trial stems from the New Mandamento investigation, so called for the project of the clan to constitute a superclan that would have unite the families of Camporeale, Monreale, Partinico, San Giuseppe Jato, Camporeale, Altofonte, Borgetto, Montelepre and Giardinello. The defendants responded in various ways to mafia, extortion, possession of arms and drugs, theft of livestock and the murder of Giuseppe Billitteri , eliminated with the method of the lupara bianca March 22, 2012.
