Crackdown nets imprisoned mob boss's men DAILY SABAH ISTANBUL Published 17 hours ago Police launched simultaneous operations yesterday in seven cities and detained 53 suspects linked to Alattin Çakıcı, a jailed mob boss who rose to fame in the late 1980s. The suspects, including a policeman and two lawyers, are accused of operating the gang under secret orders from Çakıcı who is jailed in a prison in central Turkey. Early Thursday morning, organized crime police raided several locations in Istanbul, Ankara, the southern city of Antalya, the central city of Kırıkkale where Çakıcı is imprisoned, the northwestern city of Bursa, the northern city of Tokat and the southeastern city of Mardin. The manhunt is underway for 20 other suspects. Police also found 12 pistols, two shotguns and munitions in the possession of suspects. Ejder K., a suspect captured in Antalya, is accused of leading a gang loyal to Çakıcı in this Mediterranean city. Authorities accuse the suspects of an armed attack at an Istanbul hospital where doctors allegedly refused to treat Çakıcı, a shooting that targeted an official in another hospital in the northern city of Bolu where Çakıcı was briefly imprisoned and breaking the legs of the deputy warden of the prison where the mob boss is currently held. They are also accused of shooting former gang members in the leg - mafia-style - of those that split from the gang and sharing videos of the shootings online. They are also charged with extortion. Çakıcı made a name for himself in the Turkish underworld in the late 1980s, and his name was associated with shootings and beatings. In 1995, he was indicted in the killing of his former wife and fled abroad. Çakıcı was captured in France, extradited to Turkey in 1998 and released from prison in 2002. He was indicted in another case in 2004 and was extradited from Austria, where he fled. Since then, he has remained imprisoned for various crimes. https://www.dailysabah.com/turkey/2018/03/23/crackdown-nets-imprisoned-mob-bosss-men

Turkish OC is far more widespread than people realize. I know they run A LOT of the underground operations in Rochester, which used to be a huge LCN town. Turkish groups are taking over in North America. Really ? That seems very strange to me since I've never read about Turkish organized crime groups operating in the US . I suppose they are very careful in the way they conduct business , but it's still strange that I've never read about busts involving Turkish gangsters in the US . What sort of rackets are they into in Rochester by the way ?

I suppose they are very careful in the way they conduct business , but it's still strange that I've never read about busts involving Turkish gangsters in the US . What sort of rackets are they into in Rochester by the way ? Oh absolutely. You'd be surprised but like Hollander said, there are a lot of 1st and 2nd generation Turkish immigrants living in New York State, specifically NYC and Rochester. There was a large conviction in Rochester a few years ago that broke up a long operating organized crime ring that was originally was set up decades ago. This local Turkish mob group was headed by one Ersin Yaman, known on the streets as "Mike the Turk." He has connections to the now defunct Rochester Crime Famiy of La Cosa Nostra. A big player in the modern OC era. Anyway, the Feds busted his organized crime ring which was funded primarily by stolen credit cards and stolen goods out of various pawn shops in Rochester. They handed out a string of indictments with about 55 different charges including burglary, grand larceny, forgery, drug possession, possession of stolen property, intimidating a victim/witness and the first ever charge of enterprise corruption in county history against multiple guys. Two other Turks in the gang arrested were Vedat Kıraç and Muhittin Akyüz. Another Ismael "Junior" Cruz served as Yaman's second in command. Evidently, they were making in excess of $25 million. I understand that other Turkish mafia operations still exist in the city. I don't want to say too much because honestly I don't know anything for certain, but hearsay says there are other underground activities the Turks control and a heavy flow of money they're taking huge pieces of. I suspect much of it involves dirty money and several business in the area are known to be fronts for Turkish mafia operations. I know other similar cases have been busted in Long Island (specifically Suffolk County) involving Turkish OC and stolen credit cards, extortion, illegal gambling and drugs. There was a case in which credit card information was stolen from gas station pumps in the NYC metro area and a few million ended up in offshore accounts. Another scheme involved bloating the credit limits of students and sending the money back to Bursa, Turkey. They're pretty heavy into heroin trafficking too and I believe much of that goes through the NY/NJ seaport.

Istanbul murder linked to mafia feud DAILY SABAH WITH AGENCIES ISTANBUL Published 09.04.2019 00:03 The brother of a suspected mobster standing trial for the murder of an alleged drug baron's daughter, was killed in Istanbul's upscale Bağdat Avenue late Sunday. The killing of İlhan Ünğan is the latest in a series of murders from Istanbul to Dubai, all linked to the same two groups engaged in a feud.
İlhan Ünğan was shot dead by a gunman as he was approaching his car where his family was waiting for him. The gunman fled the scene while police launched an investigation into the murder. Ünğan was a wanted suspect in a 2014 case related to murders of Arzu Sharifi Zindaşti and her chauffeur Devrim Öztunç. Zindaşti, daughter of Iranian-born tycoon Naci Şerifi Zindaşti, and Öztunç were shot dead in Istanbul's Büyükçekmece district. İlhan Ünğan's brother Orhan, who remains in custody for the murders, was accused of ordering the hit on Zindaşti.
Media outlets reported that the killing of Ünğan may be connected to Naci Şerifi Zindaşti, who went missing after he was controversially released following his capture in a crackdown on organized crime last year. Zindaşti was also linked to the Dubai murder of Çetin Koç, an alleged drug baron who tipped off police about the former's drug shipment. Koç had also alleged ties with Orhan Ünğan whose lawyer Kudbettin Kaya was shot dead in Istanbul in 2017, days before he told a court trying Ünğan brothers that he might "be killed" because of the trial. Orhan Ünğan told the court himself that his rivals "plotted to kill him or his brother" and has appealed for protection.

Zindashti (his Turkified name is Naci Serifi) and Cetin Koc were apparently Kurds originally from the Urmia region in Iran. This seems to be more of a Kurdish feud related to the Southeast Anatolia groups.
I think the Ali Akgun hit is more connected to the feud between the Turkish groups from the Black Sea region. After he was killed and also Vedat Sahin who had links to Rotterdam, there was also a theory of a war between the Kurdish mafia and the Black Sea mafia. Personally I think it has more to do with the war between two of the main Black Sea groups; the Sahin-clan and the Saral-clan. The Kurdish groups - who gained prominence after they started cracking down on the Black Sea mafia - got hit badly in the Netherlands by LE. It's the Black Sea mafia that has been rebuilding now the Southeast Anatolian Kurdish mafia is lying low. When it comes to Turkish OC, the Kurdish clans still got all the power in North London though.

Turkey takes Dutch coke baron as prime suspect in mega-investigation In Turkey the convicted Rotterdam drug boss Cetin G. was arrested in a very extensive drug investigation. This includes a shipment of 4.9 tons of cocaine seized in Colombia early this month. G. was a fugitive since 2016. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison for a very large cocaine shipment. Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu spoke of "the largest operation in the history of the republic when it comes to combating drug trafficking." An arrest warrant was issued for 94 people. 67 were arrested. Raids have been carried out or people have been arrested in nine countries, besides Turkey in countries such as the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Chile, Ecuador and Brazil. So far, 70 million liras (about 9 million euros) in money and assets have been seized. G. is the main suspect in the investigation, other Turkish drug traffickers with big names were also arrested. Police actions in Turkey were still in progress on Tuesday morning. Cetin G. will now first be tried in Turkey. It remains to be seen whether he will ever end up in prison in the Netherlands.

In Spain, crime boss Atilla Ö (57), also known to the Dutch judiciary, was arrested on Monday. the Turkish Interior Minister reported on Twitter. The arrest was made at the request of the Turkish authorities.
O. is suspected of membership of a criminal organization, large-scale drug trafficking and possession of weapons. Turkey will ask Spain for extradition. O. settled in Spain. A tip had come in about his whereabouts.
The Dutch Turk was released in Turkey in 2014 due to a change in the law. He had been detained in Istanbul since 2007 because he was sentenced to more than 30 years in prison for murder and drug trafficking in the so-called Besiktas affair.
O. had interests in various coffee shops in Amsterdam and was one of the founders of the party location The Sand in Amsterdam-West, but is no longer involved.
O. was a close acquaintance of Kees Houtman, hash dealer and real estate dealer who was murdered in 2005. According to key witness Peter La S., Ö. was on a death list of Dino Soerel and Ali Akgün. The latter was shot dead in Istanbul in December 2014.

In Turkey, one of the most wanted drug lords Urfi Çetinkaya was arrested on Tuesday evening. He was arrested in a villa in Istanbul-Sar?yer, north of the center, five others were also arrested. Çetinkaya's arrest was a national priority for the Turkish government. This is evident because at the national level there was cooperation between the Anti-Narcotics Department and the police in Istanbul, led by the powerful Directorate General of Security in Ankara. He was sentenced to 24 years in prison for involvement in heroin and cocaine shipments between 2003 and 2013. There is also an ongoing investigation in which his brother and cousin were already arrested in May last year. Çetinkaya is of Turkish-Kurdish descent, his age can only be guessed at. He has been in a wheelchair since 1988. That is the result of a shooting by the police when he ignored a police stop sign in the car on May 18, 1988. He spent several years in prison but slowly worked his way to a top position in the Turkish underworld, especially after he was released. He has sometimes been called 'the most powerful man in Turkey' after President Erdogan, but whether that was the case is doubtful. For some time he lived in a veritable palace in Istanbul, but at a certain point he felt compelled to go into hiding and emigrate. He would have stayed in Dubai, among other places.

'Turkish godfather involved in Hamburg's cocaine record' February 20, 2024
A whole series of suspects have been arrested in various places in Turkey who are said to be part of the criminal organization of the Turkish "godfather" Ürfi Çetinkaya, who has been in prison since April last year , the Turkish police report. The organization is said to have been involved in the transport of 13 tons of cocaine that was caught in Hamburg in 2021.
Rüstem Çetinkaya Turkish media write that 42 suspects have been arrested, including Rüstem and Hakan Çetinkaya and a man identified as HYN. There was an arrest warrant against the latter from the United States.
The investigation was led by the chief prosecutor in Istanbul and the Anti-Drug Directorate of the Directorate General of Security, the national department that fights organized crime in Turkey.
There were raids in Izmir, Afyonkarahisar, Malatya, Antalya, Çanakkale, Bilecik, Mu?la and Istanbul.
Wheelchair The leader of the criminal organization that the Turkish justice department has in mind is Ürfi Cetinkaya, who can only move in a wheelchair. He was arrested last year because he still had to serve an old sentence.
He is again suspected of international drug trafficking, founding an armed organization with the aim of committing a crime and money laundering. His son Rüstem sees the Turkish judiciary as his successor.
Record in Hamburg The network is said to have shipped 37 tons of cocaine to Germany, Bulgaria, Spain, Mauritania, Portugal and Greece, among others.
According to Turkish justice, the record catch of 13 tons in Hamburg several years ago can also be attributed to a transport of the suspects. At the beginning of February, a German-Iranian man, Pouya Mohmini, was arrested in Colombia for this .
Hawala Drug profits collected by the criminal organization in other European countries went to Turkey through underground banking from Hawala networks.
The investigation into the drug shipments of the Çetinkaya family took two years.

“Amsterdam” Turk arrested in mega investigation in Turkey
June 8, 2024 In Turkey, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that 62 people were arrested on Friday in an action against organized drug trafficking. One of the main suspects is Orhan Üngan (photo) and also Aydin Razaki, who is well known in the Netherlands. Razaki was involved in the Amsterdam underworld for a long time, but moved to Istanbul. International scale Minister Yerlikaya spoke to Turkish media of 'four criminal organizations that are involved in drug trafficking on an international scale and have recently attempted to launder the proceeds of this trade.' Other main suspects are Orhan Üngan (photo right) and Ibrahim Kurtar and also a veteran in the top class of the Turkish underworld Selim “Vos” Isik. 200 real estate objects, 85 cars and 30 companies, as well as bank assets of suspects, have been seized. 2000 kilos of heroin Orhan “The Ghost” Üngan is a major heroin trafficker and collector of luxury watches (Turkish media write that his watch collection has been seized. A cousin of Üngan is on the run. Orhan Üngan is known in Turkey to be involved in a deadly feud with Iranian-Kurdish heroin trafficker Naji Zindashti. The cause of this underworld war is a stock of 2,000 kilos of heroin seized in Greece in 2014. Ali Akgün Many people have been killed in a row over Iranian heroin, probably including the Turkish Dutchman and footballer Ali Akgün. The latter is said to have been one of the investors in that affair. In a 2014 attack on Zindashti, his daughter and a driver were mistakenly killed. Ali Akgün was shot dead later that year. After that, Orhan Üngan's brother was shot dead in Istanbul-Kad köy in 2019 . Holleeder Aydin Razaki survived an attack near the Amsterdam Olympic Stadium in 2007. During a raid on his home, investigators found dozens of mobile phones. Research then showed that Razaki maintained contacts with, among others, Willem Holleeder and Dino Soerel. Passage process Aydin Razaki was a close contact of Ali Akgün in the Netherlands and played a role in the margins of the Passage liquidation process. A key witness, Okan Fidan, who was also shot dead in 2014, made a safe statement in 2009, which ended up in the Passage file after his death. Okan Fidan had been Razaki's bodyguard. Razaki suspected him of involvement in the attack at the Olympic Station. Key witness Fidan said that the chairman of the then Amsterdam football club Türkiyemspor, Nedim Imaç, also a suspect in heroin trafficking, was murdered partly on the orders of Ali Akgün (in 2007). Akgün and others are said to have been involved in the execution. According to the key witness, Razaki was one of those others. https://www.crimesite.nl/amsterdamse-turk-gearresteerd-in-mega-onderzoek-in-turkije/

As early as 1996 the Camorra had a stronghold in Turkey starting in Instanbul and spreading from there. Said to be composed almost entirely of Italians and Greeks from Naples,Sicily, and Cephalonia. In the 90s investigations also revealed relations between the crime families from Platì (Reggio Calabria) and the most powerful Turkish/Kurdish clans like Baybasin, Kocakaya and Dilek. The Italian crime syndicates, and the French and Corsicans, have had close working relationships with Turkish poppy growers and processors, war lords and strongmen for over a century. Hence the French and Corsican underworld who ran the labs in Marseilles, and later, the Southern Italians and Sicilians that processed, packaged and smuggled overseas to North America.

Twelve years in prison for murder in Turkish restaurant The judge has imposed a twelve-year prison sentence for a fatal shooting in a Turkish restaurant on the Mathenesserweg in Rotterdam in September 2014. This was reported by RTV Rijnmond on Wednesday. The court imposed a much lower sentence than was demanded, because it does not believe the murder was prepared. Photo: Convicted Cengiz A. Nine bullets The 29-year-old Hamdi Bilir was shot dead in front of many people present. The judge in the verdict: 'The suspect fired nine bullets. The victim tried to defend himself with a newspaper rack in mortal fear, but nevertheless had no chance to escape the attack and died on the spot.' The victim, terrified, tried to defend himself with a newspaper rack. Shooter According to the court, the 43-year-old Cengiz A. was the shooter. He was recognized by several witnesses and there were gunshot residues on his jacket. The man fled to Turkey. He is serving a fifteen-year sentence there for involvement in the murder of an Iranian journalist. Co-suspect Ugur D. (30) said he was the shooter to the police, but the judge does not believe the man. Witnesses who were inside the Durum Evi eatery and outside, point to Cengiz A. as the shooter . Lower penalty The Public Prosecution Service demanded a 22-year prison sentence for murder in this case. The judge arrives at a much lower sentence because manslaughter is assumed. According to the judge, there is no clarity about the motive. The judge also thinks that if someone wants to commit murder, he will not do so in this way: 'It is not obvious to carry out that decision in a very busy restaurant where he often went, almost in full view and where he arrived and left on foot.' The two suspects were not present at the hearing or at the verdict. Hamdi Bilir's relatives were disappointed with the severity of the sentence. https://www.crimesite.nl/twaalf-jaar-cel-voor-moord-in-turks-eethuis/

Everyone is afraid of The Wheelchair Man From the September 8, 2020 edition: On Sunday, June 17, 2014, more than two tons of heroin were seized in Athens. The seizure led to a large number of liquidations in Turkey, Canada and the Netherlands, including that of Ali Akgün in December of that year. The transport belonged to the king of kings of the heroin trade: Urfi C., better known as The Wheelchair Man. Turkish media call him 'the Pablo Escobar of Turkey'. A drug transport can always go wrong, but there was more going on here: infighting at the top of the largest heroin gang in the world. ![[Linked Image]](https://thumbor.pijper.io/zOfz2orZF393TJ_sXEk_3nETyvU=/728x410/top/filters:format(webp)/https%3A%2F%2Fcdn.pijper.io%2F2021%2F11%2FVB8bk4lSeAacgS1636452119.jpg)

FOREIGN AFFAIRS Turkish mafia posing hybrid threat Report maps its activity in Greece, notes risk of it being used as a tool by secret services Turkish mafia posing hybrid threat [Goulielmos Antoniou/Intime News] Yiannis Souliotis 16.09.2024 • 08:15 A confidential report authored by Greek security authorities charting the activity of the Turkish mafia in Greece has issued a stern warning about the risk of its being used as a tool by secret services. The multi-page report coincides with the recent arrest of armed Turkish mobsters in Greece on two separate occasions within the space of three days.
The authors of the report characterize the potential recruitment of criminal law offenders by espionage networks as an “escalating threat.” Among other things, the report notes that Greece risks becoming a sphere for settling scores between rival groups of organized crime in Turkey, as happened in the case of the six-person murder in September 2023 in Loutsa. However, it also stressed that Turkish criminal groups can be leveraged by “politically motivated actors and intelligence services to carry out covert operations, such as conducting hybrid operations.”
Organized crime has historically served as a lucrative target for secret services worldwide.
“This is an escalating threat,” says the report, stressing that Turkish criminal networks operating in the country can be “effectively instrumentalized by foreign state actors.”
From the analysis of incidents in Greece involving the Turkish mafia since September 2023, common characteristics emerge regarding the methodology employed. For example, when entering Greece illegally, they claim to be members of the Kurdish PKK or supporters of the Gulen network, in order to apply for asylum.
In some cases they state that they are facing trumped-up persecutions in Turkey. They lead a luxurious life using expensive vehicles, post their photos and videos on social networks, while for their accommodation they use properties rented through Airbnb – mainly in the center of Athens and East Attica – using fellow Turks residing in Greece, who have not concerned the prosecuting authorities, to complete the agreements.
“They are looking for synergies with Turks living in Greece or other countries of the European Union or the Western Balkans,” the secret report said. As well as the fact that the presence of Turkish criminals in the country of Kurdish origin entails the risk of developing connections and contacts with people from the anarchist-anti-authoritarian space, who usually participate in solidarity initiatives for persecuted Kurds.

Four Turkish mafia leaders arrested in the Netherlands during international mega operation The tentacles of the Turkish mafia reach all over Europe. Today four 'leaders of Turkish cells' were arrested. Crime Panorama Editorial Apr 15, 2025 | 5:00 PM Mafia In total, four arrests were made on Tuesday, April 15. Two in The Hague, one in Arnhem and one in Rotterdam. At the same time, no fewer than 232 suspects were arrested in other places in Europe during an international operation against four different Turkish drug cartels. This was reported by the AD . These criminal organizations are said to have members and leaders in many different countries, including the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Spain. However, most arrests - 225 - were made in Turkey today. Hundreds of properties and 127 cars were also seized. The total value: more than 300 million euros. The major international operation, which was carried out by the Turkish law enforcement agencies, Europol and several other European countries, is seen as a major blow in the fight against the Turkish mafia. The Netherlands The four people who were arrested in the Netherlands are seen as leaders within the Dutch cells of the criminal syndicates. A kind of advanced pawns, who are in charge of the Dutch branches of the Turkish mafia here. From here, the suspects would arrange criminal business such as drug trafficking for their bosses in Turkey. Andy Kraag, the Dutch head of Serious and Organised Crime at Europol, states in the AD that Turkish criminals were mainly involved in the heroin trade in the past, but have switched to coke and other drugs in recent years. After all, that yields more money these days. Cracked messages Law enforcement agencies in Turkey targeted the hundreds of criminals after they obtained large amounts of data, including chat messages sent via encrypted services such as SKY ECC and Anom. In the Netherlands, too, various criminal telephone services were cracked in the past. This yielded a ridiculously large amount of information, after which hundreds of arrests were made. Hundreds of kilos of drugs were also intercepted and several liquidations were prevented because the police were able to read along with the criminals. https://panorama.nl/artikel/639756/...and-tijdens-internationale-mega-operatie

The man who was liquidated on the terrace of a Rijswijk hotel on Thursday evening is said to be a notorious Turkish murder suspect who had made many enemies. It concerns Cemil Önal, who is suspected of being the mastermind behind the murder of a gambling boss in Turkish-controlled Northern Cyprus. Önal is also said to have been in possession of tapes with compromising images of high-ranking Turkish politicians from President Erdogan's party.
The shooter made little effort to disguise himself. He was dressed entirely in black, just like an accomplice, and is said to have sat on a nearby bench for some time. The perpetrator went straight for his target and shot his victim decisively, at close range, according to eyewitnesses. He ran away after the attack.
'Target allegedly gave names of prominent Turkish figures to American justice' According to a Turkish source, Önal is said to have recently spoken to a public prosecutor from the United States in our country. It is claimed that he gave names of several prominent Turkish figures.
Cemil Önal suspected of involvement in murder of gambling boss Halil Falyali Önal is suspected of being the mastermind behind the infamous murder of gambling boss Halil Falyali (52). He had been wanted in the United States since 2016 for international money laundering and drug trafficking.
