The hilarious thing about these people calling themselves nazis and aryans is that they probably all would have been sent to camps in hitlers ideal world. It was very much a germanic thing he idealised more than being white. He and his inner circle were basically a bunch of looney toons that believed in conspiracy theories and believed they were descendants of the lost city of atlantis. They even went as far as to try and manufacture their own made up history of ancient germans by sending out expeditions to find artifacts like the holy grail etc. It would be funny if it wasnt for the fact that it ended up with them killing the disabled, jews and basically anyone they werent willing to stretch the ever fluctuating definitions of being aryan for.

I don't think it has anything to do with shame. If you were to ask most of these people if they were Italian, they'd say they were, and express pride in it. They just don't 'claim' it per se in their day to day lives.

There are no Italian communities in California. Some older Italians think there are, because they meet up with a few other families at whatever last standing mom and pops Italian eatery is in the area, but these are really more like historical clubs than any real pillars of preservation.

A lot of Mexican-American neighborhoods in California are former Italian neighborhoods. Interesting how it worked out that way. Many of the remaining Italians that grew up in these neighborhoods identify as Chicanos.

I also wouldn't confuse Chicano culture with Mexican culture. Chicano culture is mostly English speaking, and much of the music Chicanos like is the same that older Italians back east like, oldies, r&b ballads, etc.

Catholicism is also certainly a major commonality between these two cultures.

I believe it was Malcom X or someone who referred to this as something like "second place syndrome". Instead of fighting oppression, some minorities (and whites who belong to more recently arrived immigrant groups) fight over being the most serviceable to the oppressors. Sort of like the "house slave" mentality.

Mussolini was an ally of Hitler. Not sure if it's accurate to say that the people of Italy were. There was always an anti-fascist movement in Italy, which included many wealthy and influential people, even before WW2.

Hitler idolized Mussolini but thought that the Italians were weak and even despised the Japaneses, he allied with both because the japan should fight the english and american armies in Asia and the italy should fight the Royal navy in the mediterranean sea.Hitler also hate that the japanese dont wanted to help him in russia's invasions.

After September 8,1943 the nazis invade italy and occuped it and until April 1945 italy was treated like the other occupated contries but worst because the Germans thinked that the italians betrayed them.

You made the claim they would have been sent to ”camps.” I really don't care about Nazism or Aryanism, but the truth. There were even half blacks in Nazi Germany who weren't put in camps. Germany was also allies with the Japanese, the Slavic Ukranians and Croatians, etc. The Nazis did horrible things, but to claim they were throwing everyone who wasn't an "Aryan" into camps is a lie.
