Richie was a sick fuck with a wicked sense of self entitlement. I agree. Obviously you can say that about most mob guys but it's especially true of Tony as well. He put himself before the family many times.

Dues do you think Richie was in the right to sell coke on the garbage routes for Junior?
I can certainly understand why he did it. Him getting out of prison and wanting to earn and not being welcomed by Tony. Also the incident with Davey Scatino at the card game and Tony wouldn't let him collect on his loan.
If he and Junior were really serious about taking out Tony (obviously Junior never was) Richie should have done whatever Tony wanted. Yes boss whatever you say boss. And when Tony thinks he's got a loyal soldier...2 in the head.
But Richie didn't have that in him. Like Junior said when talking to Bobby about Richie. "He couldn't sell it. We're better off with Tony" and then Bobby answers with the hilarious line "Sometime I'm in awe of you"
But yes I agree with you about Beansie. In that life the way Beansie responded with the "I'll step up" after saying that he had a beating coming no doubt. Agree
Be Loyal, Be Loving, Be Quiet.

I think Richie ( and Feech) both made tactical strategy errors upon their release. They should have both sat down with Tony and assured him that 1) They accepted him as the Boss. 2) They wanted to resume the rackets ,they had before they were locked up, but if not, then they would still find ways to earn (with Tony's blessing). 3) Tony would clear all of their capers beforehand ,in return for a piece (of course).
Had Richie sat down with Tony and outlined his case for a cut of Beansies business, Tony may have had a sitdown and worked out a fair deal. Even if Tony ruled against him, Richie would still have gotten respect from Tony and he may have been given some other lucrative opportunities. In Feech's case, his big mistake was doing his own thing and then waiting until Tony found out, then reluctantly giving up a piece.
Tony genuinely respected Feech, and even tried to help him get "back in the game",but Feech's refusal to see Tony as anything but a kid living off his Fathers rep, was the final straw. Same with Richie to an extent as evidenced by his comment to Tony,"What's mine is not yours to give me". And I don't think Tony respected Richie, but I do believe he would have put that aside to keep the Family earning had Richie not gone so far.
Bottom line is that I believe both of these guys could have had a nice gig going, built up a good crew, earned a ton of money, and had the world by the ass, but the huge egos did them in.They both acted as if Tony was merely an inconvenience to their plans. All they had to do was show Tony the respect that his position commanded, even if they didn't feel that way personally. Play the game, make nice with the Boss and let the money roll in.

richie aprile my be the most realistic wiseguy on the show..says alot...an..opinion..or better yet fact. that many of you wont believe probably..richie april is based on spucky spagnolo from boston..frankie renzuilli wrote many of those episodes, an east boston guy that grew up around them all. he actually named beansie after his best friend, and couldnt tell him what the character was and how it turned out haha, friend was like you made me a jerkoff!! haha..anyway, the executive card game is eeriliy similar to a story i know that happened at a club in maverick square , not the stars at the game, but the way silvio acts is the way someone esle at that game would act...anyway, believe it or not, this is accurate..im sure a ton of the soprano writing is accurate and im sure that each character has traits and ties with many different guys, but knowing renzulli personally, and the episodes he wrote..and just he way aprile looks..he captured spucky pretty well...

No doubt that neither Richie or Feech really respected Tony. My point was that they both should have kept their feelings to themselves, kissed Tony's butt, and made nice. I know that this is totally out of their character. but they could always have made a move on Tony down the road if that's the way they wanted to go. If not, they could have enjoyed a nice, lucrative career. Had they openly shown Tony the respect he deserved regardless of their personal feelings, and not gone off on their own schemes, I think Tony would have probably let them have more freedom to run their own show, much like Paul Castellano did with Neil. Instead, had Janis not killed Richie,I think Tony would have done it sooner than later. I also feel that Tony set Feech up instead of killing him, because he felt a little more sympathy for him. Here was a guy who had a lot of respect and earning power back in the day, did his time, and stood up. Don't get me wrong,if it had to be,then Feech would have been whacked in a minute. I just think that Tony felt a little sorry for him as opposed to Richie, who I think Tony genuinely disliked. Just my two cents worth.

Well said, Biggie. Richie was one of my favorite characters from the show.

If Richie and Jackie Aprile are Adrianna’s uncles, is she related to them through her mother or father?
