Actor and member of the Kennedy family, Christopher Lawford, passed away earlier this month.

Very entertaining, sad

Comedian/impressionist Will Jordan has died at age 91. In the 1950s through the 1970's, Jordan was one of the very best mimics to be seen on television, and was particularly noted for having "invented" the impression of variety-show host Ed Sullivan (see photo) that was copied by others, much to Jordan's chagrin.



I worked with him a number of times, back around 15 or so years ago. I think I'm the only one who picked him.

Jefferson Airplane vocalist-guitarist Marty Balin, who co-founded the San Francisco psychedelic rock band in 1965 and played a crucial role in the creation of all their 1960s albums, including Surrealistic Pillow and Volunteers, died Thursday at the age of 76.

Legendary French singer Charles Aznavour died October 1 at age 94.

Yes, me too. He was a great character and I was sad when they killed him off at the prison also.

Willie McCovey has passed. Growing up in SF during the 70s Stretch was a favorite. The man was a true Giant in every sense of the word. He'd been ill for many years but still manged to show up at the ball park quite often considering his health. It's gonna be weird going to opening day and not have him announced smog the living legends. RIP

McCovey made his major league debut on July 30, 1959, with about 1/3:of the season left to play. He batted .354 with 13 homers and 38 RBIs, and received the rookie of the year award. He won the MVP Award in 1969, in a league that was as densely packed with star players as any league has ever been.

Actor James Karen died October 23 at age 94. He was a memorable heel in the original 1982 Poltergeist, appeared in Return of the Living Dead and Frankenstein Meets the Space Monster (to name but a few of his credits), but in the NYC area, he will forever be known as the on-camera spokesman for the Pathmark chain of supermarkets in commercials that seemed to run for years! I actually met him once, many years ago. He seemed like a nice guy.



I had him on my list.

Stan Lee

Stan Lee founder of Marvel Comics and creator of just about any superhero that matters has passed at 95.

These days Marvel Comics is probably best known for film adaptations of their most popular titles such as Spider Man, Iron Man, Captain America and The Avengers. For me and many kids of the 70s/80s it was all about the X-Men and Wolverine. Lee created this team of mutants led by Professor X not just as a vehicle for telling incredible stories but as a way to show the idiocies of prejudice in the wake of the horrors of WW2. It's hard to think back to a time when a movie or TV show about superheroes was a rarity but aside from Superman on the big and small screens, some animated shows, the Wonder Woman series starring Lynda Carter, Spider Man on the Electric Company and a few others you could only follow these adventures in print.And follow them we did. Month after month Lee and the artists at Marvel would keep us mesmerized with fantastic tales leaving everyone on the edge of their seats for 30 days until the next book arrived. Stan Lee pioneered an art form that far exceeded his vision and grew from a hobby for kids to a worldwide phenomenon. RIP & EXCELSIOR!

Too bad about Stan Lee... despite working at Marvel HQ in NYC for a year and a half, I never ran into him (not sure how often he showed up since he moved to CA; I worked on the New Media floor anyway). While I wasn't much of a print comics fan growing up, Stan's touch reached to all media. He was indeed a pioneer and his cameos will be missed in all future films. RIP
