Mafia link suspected in laborer's murder (ANSA) - Palermo, January 11 - The investigation into the murder of Vincenzo Greco, 36, is following a mafia-related line of inquiry, sources said Friday. The construction worker was riddled with bullets on Thursday when driving an off-road vehicle on a road connecting Belmonte Mezzagno to Santa Cristina Gela near Palermo. The victim does not have a criminal record and is the son-in-law of Filippo Casella, a man killed in 1994 when he was 32 years old in Belmonte Mezzagno. Is it true that the Ndrangheta really paid Thailand’s debt off and they’re using that as leverage against the government there? https://www.salon.com/2018/06/24/le...ganized-crime-is-global-and-flourishing/Giuseppe Lombardo, a Calabrian prosecutor specializing in the ’Ndrangheta’s finances, told me that by buying up the government debt of two Asian countries, Thailand and Indonesia, then threatening to dump it, the ’Ndrangheta had blackmailed entire nations into letting it operate on their territory. Their money, said Lombardo, had elevated the group to a position of invulnerability. They now occupied a "fundamental and indispensable position in the global market," he said, one that was "more or less essential for the smooth functioning of the global economic system."

That still amazes me. Just another example of their power.

Is she using the money that her father made from his illegal activities or were all of his assets seized and frozen? Who know ? It wouldn't surprise me if her father had money hidden off shore accounts. Good point

Blitz after the story of the repentant ! Two other bosses emerge, members of the new Commission of Cosa Nostra in Palermo: Calogero Lo Piccolo and Leandro Greco. Their names are added to the puzzle that allows you to outline the contours of the new mafia. The Palermo dda issued a decree against seven people in the context of the investigations on the reconstituted Commission. The project to restore life to the Dome had been discovered in December and had led to the arrest of 47 between bosses and followers. The investigation has now allowed to identify two other prominent elements of the dome: Leandro Greco is the grandson of the historical capomafia of Ciaculli, Michele Greco; Calogero Lo Piccolo is the son of the San Lorenzo boss Salvatore Lo Piccolo. Both attended the meetings of the new provincial commission. Calogero Lo Piccolo, 43, had already been in the cell where he serves a sentence for the Mafia. He would be the new head of the line and would take over the reins immediately after his release. Greco ![[Linked Image]](https://gdsit.cdn-immedia.net/2019/01/leandro-greco-baci-2-625x350.jpg)

The disappearance of strong figures like those of Riina and Bernardo Provenzano led Cosa Nostra to reorganize their ranks with a work of pacification between the various families. Thus the "winning" Corleonesi and the "loser" groups, decimated by the mafia wars, are now united, and together they have chosen a new path: abandonment of all traces of violence, sharing of the management of traditional trades (lace in the first place, but also drugs and bets), control of the procurement system, links with professional activities. This new criminal horizon was organized without the decisive influence of the superlatitant Matteo Messina Denaro who remains linked to a "dynastic" vision of the mafia. The abandonment of the ferocious violence that has provoked the harsh response of the State is now the shared method in the reorganization of Cosa nostra, which on the one hand tries to maintain control of all the most profitable activities with a trial, according to Scarpinato, of "slow and underground change in the method of relating to civil society". In fact, a "progressive transition from violence to consensus" is taking place.
