Matteo Messina Denaro, long thought to be Cosa Nostra's fugitive No.1, does not in fact have "an active role" in the criminal organisation, Palermo police chief Renato Cortese said Friday. "He does not have criminal strategies and the affiliates do not report to him," Cortese said.
