R.I.P. Mr. Cali. May your family find peace. I hope there isn't a war brewing. Bloodshed is bad for business.
I think this definitely proved the commission is once again active. Bosses don't just get whacked. This was a sanctioned hit. Who is responsible, we'll find out soon enough.

zero info and just guessing wouldnt put it past him. the old guard strikes back maybe they thought they wernt getting the respect but the whole part of being runover with the truck makes it seem very personal unless he was shot in the street and the truck didnt have any way to go but over him. truck has to be stolen or this shit is solved in 24 hours rite? It may be too obvious.. That's the first thing I thought of. But nobody knows yet.. Pure speculation on my part.. It's always their Families that suffer in the end. Prayers go out to them.

A panicked family member called 911, telling a dispatcher Cali was run over before he was shot, though investigators were still looking into whether the gunman mowed the mobster down, sources said.
Police were searching for the pickup truck that raced from the grisly scene, sources said.
“There were like six shots, and then there were three more,†one witness, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told the Daily News. “The man was on the ground face-up. His head was by his SUV, and the truck was open.â€
Cali’s distraught family members rushed outside after the shooting.
“Papa! Papa!†one man cried before lying on the grass, sobbing, the witness recounted.
One woman yelled into her phone, “Why doesn’t the ambulance come? He’s not breathing!†the witness told The News. Another woman “was just making loud noises,†the witness said.

Haven't posted in here in ages. Just my 2 cents. I would be very surprised if it was a power move by either Gene or the Bonanos. If it has to do with anything, my guess is it is the Zips, and it has to do with the 77 million worth of cocaine seized in Newark. I doubt any mobster wants to make the headlines these days. it's the third mob-related murder in a few months in new york, it could be internal to gambino or maybe it comes from the bonanno, linked to canada stuff, sicilian mafia connections etc. Canada stuff is pretty much Italian stuff. It's not like the clan's that operate in Toronto/MTL, are really killing each other over territory for bookmaking, loansharking, etc, and union control. They are pretty much drug syndicates trying to control distribution channels. So, it could easily be them over the transport of drugs going wrong or something to do with Cali infringing on these pipelines. I'd just be surprised if it is a Castellano situation (which was purely motivated by taking over a family/being on the whacking block/too much tribute demand). I'm just saying, I'd be a little bit surprised if its a situation of another Gambino making a power move or a rival five families boss or crew making a statement.

canada stuff seems to be mostly an lcn stuff They are all mobsters/LCN but it is not like they are fighting over traditional rackets. It's primarily over distribution channels for cocaine and heroin. While always being an underlying income source for LCN, its not the traditional stuff a boss of a Five Families family gets knocked off for. The Rizzuto's goldmine was drug distribution through Canadian ports operating through the Cuntera-Caruana clan. It wasn't someone trying to eliminate Rizzuto to take over as head of MTL, it was someone trying to eliminate them completely to take over the drug importation.
