Ive been to La Romana (I was born in the capital) it’s the most “first world†looking area in the southern part of the country. I never heard of Italians living there until recently.

Plus, guys of that caliber operate with little to no police scrutiny since the law enforcement branch in the country is so corrupt, they just pay a few thousands here and there and even the DNCD (Dominican version of DEA) will turn a blind eye to whatever you’re doing.

I know from personal friends and family actually go to DR and Cuba more often than they do to the United States. Especially in rural towns in Sicily a lot of them follow communist ideology
