I'm at a loss for words right now... I'm so sorry to report SC's passing. I didn't realize he had fallen ill recently. Though he was a member of my forums since the 90s, we didn't meet until 2003 (pictured on the left, with our other dearly departed pal, Plawrence, on the right). We've met a number of times since then, for many group dinners, a Sopranos locations bus tour in '03, an unforgettable trip to a Gangster convention in Chicago in '04, among other weekends. He was my Consigliere -- my #2 -- here on the BB. Sometimes the enforcer, when he had to be, but also a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic Godfather fan. Saul -- you will be sorely missed, and there's now another large hole here on the BB, and in my heart. I love you, brother! RIP 💔

SC aka ‘Luca’ my most valued friend, we had a lot of laughs together, shed some tears together, but most importantly made some great memories together. So until we meet again........😢

I just spoke with SB who told me the devastating news. I too am shocked and at a loss for words.
I had the honor of meeting SC a few times for the BB meets and have kept in touch throughout the years. . He was a kind wonderful person and a lot of fun to be with. From the day I joined this board, he was among those that made me feel welcome here right away . He was a great moderator of this board and as Geoff said a great and knowledgeable Consigliere. I will forever associate that picture of Bogie to the one and only SC. RIP my friend.
I read this quote shortly after my father passed away, and found it really touching

I got a text from Don Cardi. I cannot believe he is gone. We haven't spoken in years. He made me feel welcome since day one on the BB. First time we met was at the '05 BB weekend and again at the 07 BB weekend. He will be missed.
"When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives." Winter is Coming Now this is the Law of the Jungle—as old and as true as the sky; And the wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die. Im in shock, he will be truely missed in life and on these boards.
I've been here over 15 years so i got to know him quite a bit, he was always there for you and treated people equally. Very sad and im not sure what else to write. Just that SC will be missed and it won't be the same here..
I'll play a Frank Sinatra song tonight in his honour..
RIP SC..

Oh, my dear friend. Words cannot express what you meant to me, what you meant to so many of us here and elsewhere. Our friendship started on these forums, and continued through the magic of social media. I've had a love/hate relationship with Facebook, but I will always be grateful for the opportunities it presented me with connecting with new friends, and reconnecting with old ones. Facebook allowed me to build a great friendship with Saul, and I will always be thankful for that. This really hurts. I'm gonna miss you, pal. Until we meet again. RIP.

I'm so deeply saddened. SC was a friend. We had great times at the GBB get-togethers, where Saul was usually the life of a very lively party. We had lots of friendship on other boards, and through emails. More than that, SC was a wonderful human being. He was a terrific writer, and often graced us with rapier wit, which made us laugh no matter what. Despite having to strong-arm some of the miscreants on the OC Board, SC was really a gentle, kind-hearted guy, always caring about others and solicitous of their feelings.
Some of you probably know that he was chronically ill and severely disabled. But, he soldiered on, never feeling sorry for himself, and never losing his sense of humor, even when the clouds darkened above him. He was an inspiration. I miss him badly already.

He was always firm but fair in his limited interactions with me. You could tell he was a nice guy. Never abused his power like moderators on other forums.
May he rest in peace.

Wow. My condolences to his family and friends, within and outside of our internet community.
Geoff, the picture of you with Plaw and SC is as iconic as any photo from the movie. It emphasizes the genuine community that exists within this site. It truly personalizes and humanizes this site compared to the largely anonymous nature of the internet. Consequently, I feel like I lost a good neighbor today in SC. I imagine the burden is even greater for those like you that knew him personally. I am very sorry for your loss.

Absolutely!!
No offense to any of the great moderators here, but wouldn’t this be something SC would have done? 😢 He was always quick to respond to things like this. It’s going to seem so strange not seeing him around. ☹ï¸

I saw your suggestion earlier -- I just don't think people can reply to "Global Announcements" (if that's what you meant, putting it on top of each forum so everyone can see it regardless of what forum they're in).
I was going to make it a "Sticky" topic in General Discussion in time, but Sticky topics really don't get the attention they deserve because people overlook them. Of course I would've made it Sticky before it fell too low in the topics list...
-- PS --
I was gonna leave it "Sticky" after DC did it, but when I came back I couldn't find the thread right away ...so I'll redo it in due time, once most people had a chance to see it in the "normal" spot for new posts/replies....
-- PPS --
Thought I'd compromise with a Global Announcement on the top of each forum pointing people to this thread. Eventually I'll Sticky this thread, and also remove these "housekeeping" posts....

It's taken me a few days to let this sink in just to be able post my tribute to the good man, SC. And I really wanted to do it here, where I first "met" the man. I've only ever known SC as an online presence but I've known him for nearly 20 years. A man I highly respected and conversed with on FB I'm deeply saddened by the news of his passing and I didn't know how to deal with the news when it first struck. I really am heartbroken. I can only wish his family and friends the best.
I've been away from the GBB for months due primarily to family reasons and had no idea about Saul. I am just numb.
I had the pleasure of meeting Saul several times, the first being back in February, 2006. There is a thread called A Motley Crew that features that memorable GBB "sit-down" and will always stick in my mind for being a great evening, plain and simple. Saul and I were Brooklyn characters - he lived for a number of years not too far from where I lived.
I last saw him a couple of years ago when he was hospitalized. He was happy to see me and we had a good talk for around a half-hour or so. Problem was, he later told me he was on so much medication he barely remembered my visit! I tried to contact him last Summer when I found myself in the Catskill Region but only got his voicemail. I had no idea his already-bad health had taken such a turn.
I count myself lucky to have known him personally, but, even so, I wish I could have known him better. A number of people have met and become friends due to the GBB, but when people live scattered all over the place, in-person socializing becomes next-to-impossible.
I guess I'm rambling... but I am absolutely heartbroken.
R.I.P. my friend.

My dear friend, always such a comfort, always so witty, so funny. Never let on that he was sad or lonely. He was a lovely, funny, kind man who always had a hug and a ready ear.
When we first met back in NJ many years ago, some of the group had made a day trip to the track (including SC), and one of the horses had actually died. SC was recounting the tale, as only he could, getting a smile and laugh out of what would have been a sad circumstance. We told him that the last time we had been to the track, we ate dinner at one of the nicer restaurants there. We walked up to the reservations desk and they asked our last name. My husband gave it to the maitre d, who, despite the fact that we had NOT made a reservation, took us to an excellent table overlooking the start./finish line. Well, right after we had our drinks delivered, the gentleman comes over to confirm our last name, and looked rather worried. My husband even showed ID. Well, it turned out that a doctor with the same last name had made a dinner reservation and they gave us his table. He was NOT happy, but they let us keep the table. From the flapping about of all the restaurant staff, we guessed that the doctor was going to bet WAY more than we were, and was also going to ring up a much higher dinner bill. Well, SC loved that story and afterwards he always referred to my husband as "the good doctor".
Rest in peace my friend, The good doctor and Babe wish you Godspeed.

Just saw this. I am at a loss for words. Though I never knew him personally, I always respected him from afar as I watched him regulate the boards among his other contributions. I recall one time I was in a petty ongoing argument with another member and I went to him asking for advice in a private message. He gave me some really great advice that really made me look at the whole situation differently and I still think about that advice from time to time. Very wise man. May he Rest In Peace. He will forever be remembered on this site and it will not be the same without him.
I was really shocked to see this, and really hard to believe. I hope his family is doing well through this difficult time, and those that knew him well on these boards as well. He was really nice, and knowledgeable among different subjects. May he rest peace
Sad to see. Always a gentlemen and very fair with honoring and enforcing the rules of Gangster BB. No nonsense guy. RIP SC you will certainly be missed here. My condolences to his family and friends.
Lately the only time I check in on this forum has been to check my tally in the contest, and just now read the news about SC. I am so sorry for his family and will miss his stern, yet needed "guidance" for all of us. It is certainly a reality check to all of us, and a reminder of just how fragile our lives are. May he rest in peace.
I just went back and read the "The Night Before Christmas, Godfather Style" and as always, it made me smile.

Still find it hard to believe he's gone. I still expect to see him admonishing me and keeping me on the straight and narrow. And I mean that in the most sincere way. He was good people.
I know he was a stranger to most of us, but he seemed like a really good person that made a positive impact on a lot of people.

Ah man, that's sad news.
It's been a long time since I've visited this site, and then today while at work, I just randomly felt like checking in, and I see this news.
Huge condolences to his family and friends.

Saul's birthday just popped up on my Facebook and, belatedly, I learned the news of his passing.
Very moved. Brought it all back: the personalities here, the misspent hours, the avatars. SC was and is indelibly Bogart: were I to watch Casablanca or The Maltese Falcon now, I'd think of him. The IRL pics of Saul when younger — the light, that Kodachrome texture — are like something out of a John Cassavetes movie.
A consigliere for sure, wartime and otherwise.
Love to all!

Most of you probably don't know me, aside from the old timers (and even you old timers have probably happily forgotten lol). I want to pay my respects to SC... I just got the news today, which is very late. I always respected the hell out of SC, even though 10-15 years ago I trolled the hell out of all of you. SC always seemed to keep things level, even with us intellectual idiots at the time. I find myself in a similar situation as SC now... Alone with my cat. Even though I am no longer a regular member, I will always miss my times with SC. R.I.P. my friend...

A year ago today, our good buddy passed away. I would've loved to read his thoughts on the current state of the world (COVID-19, the election, the shortened baseball season, etc.). His passing was overshadowed a month later by the death of my dad. I feel like Saul and my pop would've gotten along. Maybe they are now.
I miss them both.

I heard about it a year ago when he passed but I have never been one to post regularly, I visit this place more now these last few years than I than I ever did. Anyway, my condolences to those close to him. R.I.P. Saul.
I am sorry to hear about your dad too XDCX! My condolences to you.
I've been gone for many years and chose to drop in.
So sorry to hear about SC! ☹
