Can't believe Hader is available. I don't think he'll get traded as it'll cost a haul to pry him from the Brewers. I misspoke, the winter meetings are next week. I think what they had recently was the GM meetings. Heard Wheeler's price is already over $100 million and the Yankees are going to meet with both Cole and Strasburg this week. The Yanks seem to be all in on Cole. YES! Heard Hal's given the go ahead to spend what they need to get him. It'll be between the Yanks, Angels, and Dodgers. But Cole has already said he has no West Coast preference and if he wants to compete for a title year-in and year-out, he'll go to New York. They should offer him the most money.

Hey, Irish... when you feel the timing is right, feel free to start a new MLB 2020 thread...
I studied Italian for 2 semesters. Not once was a "C" pronounced as a "G", and never was a trailing "I" ignored! And I'm from Jersey! ![tongue tongue](/threads/images/graemlins/classic/tongue.gif) lol Whaddaya want me to do? Whack a guy? Off a guy? Reports are the Yankees are offering Cole 7 years and $245 million. Not only would that break David Price's record 7-year, $217 million, but it would also break Zack Grienke's $34.4 average annual value (as this would have a AAV of $35 million per year). Hopefully, that's enough to get a deal done! After the Strasburg deal it might be closer to $300 million. Strasburg resigning with DC isn't surprising at all. What is surprising are the numbers: 7-years and $245 million!? With Strasburg's injury history, I definitely think they overpaid. He opted out of his remaining 4 years at $100 million and got basically an extra 3 years at $145 million! Bravo Borris and Strasburg! ![eek eek](/threads/images/graemlins/classic/shocked.gif) As for Cole, I hear he should sign sooner rather than later. Another reason why I don't like the Strasburg deal is because it's going to drive up the Yankees price on Cole! I will after the offseason is complete. I am really surprised that the yanks let Didi walk for $15 mill. I understand that we have a crowded infield but I think for one year Didi would have been well worth it. While I don’t agree with this move I guess we will just have to move on unfortunately. I'm sad to see Didi walk, I really am. They didn't offer him a qualifying offer so we essentially get nothing for him. I wish him well and hope he can cash in next year. I've heard rumors Betances might take a 1 year deal to increase his value next offseason as well. If that's the case, I hope the Yankees resign him and get another year out of him.

Wow what a huge get for the Yankees. We finally have an ace at the top of the rotation. No excuses now. World Series or bust. In the long run, the contract will turn out bad (see A-Rod/Ellsbury). 9 year's is a long time for a pitcher (especially when he'll be 38 at the end of it). But, if he can win us some championships in the first couple of years, it'll be worth it. Flags fly forever. SO glad that not only did we get him, but we took him away from Houston as well! The balance of power just changed, not only in the AL, but in all of baseball.

We have to hope that the bats don’t go dead like they did last October against the astros. Adding another bat like LeMahieu would not hurt us. Then again we do have Andujar coming back.

While I don’t agree with this move I guess we will just have to move on unfortunately. Who does the Yanks have that can play short? I'd imagine this means LaMahieu is probably moving back to short or 2B. I have to admit, Hal has really surprised me. I figured they would be a disaster like most sons are with ball clubs but they have made some great deals and of ALL pitchers to throw a huge contract to, Gerrit Cole is the one to get it. He is legit!

I am very excited for the Gerrit Cole era in New York. I am also interested to see what else Cashman has up his sleeve. We honestly haven't had an ace since CC in 2009. I'm really excited as well and think Cole will put us over the line. Like I said, not only do we improve, but Houston just got worse at the same time! That’s the way that I look at it too. I wish we resigned Betances though.
